The game of soccer is played and enjoyed by people all over the world. To play soccer, you need two teams with eleven people on each team, a ball, and a place to play it at. Soccer games are usually played on a field that has a rich layer of finely mowed grass on it. Soccer is usually played by children and teenagers; however, it can be played by adults. This is a competitive sport that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family and it does not matter how old they are. The object of a game ... more...

Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By Mohamed Abdul Rauf Bin Mohamed Yusope @ Tuesday, 6th November 2007 @ 1:45 PM

I remembered walking around the nice Perth City appreciating the beautiful cold weather there, my eyes glanced intensely upon the sight of a book store. With my affection for reading, I walked in with great anticipation. My eyes were wide opened when I saw pictures of my favorite player, Zinedine Zidane. Zidane or Zizou is the player who I felt shows great exemplary of wonderful skills that can be found on the streets and transferred it to the field. It's been an eventful year for me... more...

Soccer Has A Long Way Go
Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By William Bishop @ Wednesday, 22nd August 2007 @ 6:27 PM

I was a little weary to even bring up the sport of soccer but I can just not help myself. I know that it wants to become big in the United States but that is never going to happen. The problem is that is just too boring to watch on TV. They do not score enough goals and the score always looks so low. It completely reminds me of hockey just without the ice and ice skates. The basic rules are all the same and so are the scores. If hockey hasn't been able to make it neither will soccer.<... more...

Soccer: America Just Doesn't Get It
Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By Jim Brown @ Monday, 23rd July 2007 @ 12:35 PM

There is a question that every mother finds herself asking her child at some point in their lives. "If all of your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?" The answer of course is "no" but the question serves to illustrate our potential as human beings for enacting popular behavior. If you ask a citizen of the United States, "If everyone in the world watched a certain sport, would you?" The answer, if the sport were soccer, would be "no". Popular or not,... more...

England Score Goals Again - But Against Andorra
Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By Roger Munns @ Monday, 2nd April 2007 @ 1:54 PM

After a goalless draw in Israel just a few days before in their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, the England football team travelled to Barcelona to play football minnows Andorra. Andorra had a history before playing England of just one victory in international football, and under normal circumstances a country with a population of 70,000, with less than half of the Andorra population Andorran nationals elegible to play, no-one would expect anything other than a comfortable England victory,... more...

The Evolution and Enjoyment of Soccer
Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By Ben Franklin @ Friday, 2nd March 2007 @ 12:49 PM

Not much is known about the first soccer team. However, the Greeks and Romans played football and ball kicking games. The London Football Association developed the first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers brought the game to India, South America and Europe. During the late 19th century, soccer was brought to the United States. However, it did not prove popular until after World War I. In 1908, soccer was made an Olympic event. Since 1952, Hungary has won the most gold me... more...

Soccer Kicks Back
Recreation and Leisure » Sports » Soccer | By Chris Campbell @ Tuesday, 12th September 2006 @ 1:53 AM

Soccer has to be one of the original sports games every played by people. I can just imagine cave dwellers kicking around the old soccer ball. Or maybe it was a soccer rock? A soccer coconut perhaps? It's got to be one of the simplest form of sports play imaginable. I mean, really, I kick the ball this way and you try to kick the ball that way. Whether the ball (coconut?) goes more this way or more that way determines the winner. While it may be easy for me to imagine soccer being kic... more...
