The name Vickers remained until the twentieth century, despite a series of changes and mergers. Vickers is now part of BAE Systems. The Vickers Company was founded in Sheffield, England, as a steel foundry by Edward Vickers and his stepfather George Naylor in 1828. Naylor was a co-owner of the foundry Naylor & Sanderson and brother William owne... more...
Is There A Chance Of New Compensation Claims In The Wake Of The Claudy Bomb Investigation?
Politics | By Richard Craig @ Wednesday, 25th August 2010 @ 6:07 AM In the most violent year of Northern Ireland's Troubles, 1972, over 500 people lost their lives as part of the senseless, unwinnable campaign between loyalists and republicans to assert their authority over the six counties in Ireland's north-east. On January 30th, Bloody Sunday, the British army shot dead thirteen civil rights protestors, predominantly Catholic, in Derry's Bogside, an event which still reverberates around the UK, Ireland, and beyond, to this day. Austin Capital Metro has Faced Numerous Troubles Over the Past Few Years
Politics | By Ryan Lynch @ Monday, 16th August 2010 @ 9:50 PM The Austin Capital Metro received quite a bit of attention as its board of directors worked on selecting who would serve as the agency's leader for the foreseeable future. While it is certainly a subject of interest, perhaps the topic that should really be discussed is how this person will turn the transit authority around. The reality is that Capital Metro has encountered a number of failures and other problems over the past few years and, unfortunately, many of these issues are still haun... more...
The Politics of Austin, Texas
Politics | By Jim Olenbush @ Thursday, 22nd July 2010 @ 2:24 AM Although the state of Texas is known for being a conservative state, its capital city is far different. In fact, the city of Austin is so well known for its Democratic leanings that it has become a stronghold for the Democratic Party. Yet, interestingly, the city's suburbs tend to vote Republican. In fact, the city is so well known for its liberal politics that conservative residents from other parts of the state routinely refer to the capital city as "The People's Republic of Aus... more...
How To Have A Memorable And Safe Prom Night
Politics | By Art Gib @ Wednesday, 21st July 2010 @ 9:39 PM I have extremely fond memories of both my junior and senior prom nights. Both times, I loved my dress, I had a great hairstyle, and my dates were friendly and fun. There are certainly a few things I would change, however. Let me share with you some of the things that made my prom wonderful--and some of the things that would have made them even better. One of the best things you can do is prepare early. That does not mean you necessarily should buy your dress six months in advance or make ... more...

Infantry Tactics & Weapons Of The American Civil War
Politics | By Mathieu Courchesne @ Friday, 18th June 2010 @ 2:20 PM The smoothbore musket, a weapon of limited range and accuracy that saw service during the American Civil War, it was later on superseded by the Musket which became chief weapon of the American civil war. Firing lines then were more than 500 yards apart and the weapons lacked enough velocity to inflict significant injury, in response to this ammo limitation, attacking troops had to be massed elbow by elbow and attempt an assault, if they were sufficient in number and ran fast enough, then the def... more...

Obama's Media Risk Warning
Politics | By Gemma Carey @ Friday, 11th June 2010 @ 8:23 PM There was a rather strange rant against the media from Barack Obama recently, as he warned that technologies like the iPad and Xbox put pressure on democracy and turn information into "a form of entertainment". It came as he was giving a speech at Hampton University in Virginia. He told graduating students that education was the key to progress. Fine. But went on to say that he believed that continuous news coverage created a sense of chinese whispers... "You're coming... more...
Tough Circles Of San Diego Politics
Politics | By Phoenix Delray @ Thursday, 3rd June 2010 @ 7:18 PM Although there are hundreds of odd things that can be pointed out about San Diego politics (and politics of anywhere in general), it seems that one recurring theme is the fact that politicians do a really good job of making the same mistakes and taking the same paths over and over again! Although no one could ever tell why this seems to happen more often in this city than in other cities, what is for sure is that there is never a lack of San Diego politics to chat about. One of the hotte... more...
Post Office History of the United States
Politics | By Bryan MacMurtrie @ Tuesday, 25th May 2010 @ 9:39 PM A lot has been said about the United States Post Office over the years. Some favorable and some not so favorable. However, one thing is for sure, the American mail system has come a long way since it's beginnings and has done it right one step at a time. Although history shows that a tavern in Boston, owned by Richard Fairbanks, was the first location to handle overseas mail, it wasn't until July 26, 1775 that the United States Post Office was officially born. It was at ... more...
What A Difference A Debate Makes
Politics | By Gemma Carey @ Tuesday, 25th May 2010 @ 9:45 AM Back in 1984, a single killer line from Ronald Reagan during a live political debate was critical in his securing re-election. When questioned about his age and suitability therefore to hold office, the 73-year-old responded "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience." His opponent conceded afterwards. "I knew he'd got me there. I walked off the stage that night almost certain my camp... more...
He's Certainly Not The First And He Probably Won't Be The Last
Politics | By Gemma Carey @ Monday, 24th May 2010 @ 9:54 AM I was shocked to see that the lowest part of the campaign trail for Gordon Brown came as a result of the most amateurish mistakes of them all. Whether or not you agree with Brown's description of Gillian Duffy there's no excusing such a schoolboy error. We've all heard the story. An angry lifelong Labour supporter took the opportunity to challenge Gordon Brown on a number of issues - including immigration and crime - whilst he was on the campaign trail. The confrontatio... more...
Iraq Coalition
Politics | By Tony Philip @ Wednesday, 12th May 2010 @ 12:02 AM When it comes to "Iraq Coalition" the term coalition is basically used to talk about the coalition between America and England against the dictatorship of Iraq, under the leadership of Saddam Husain. The problem began when Iraq strategized to attack Kuwait and annex it. When Saddam Husain attacked Kuwait then it was President Bush (senior) who intervened and sent American troops to save Kuwait. America was successful in driving away the Iraqi Forces but the retreating forces set f... more...

Politics | By Huey Harden @ Monday, 19th April 2010 @ 12:09 PM With unemployment at an all time high of 9% majority of US states have virtually bled their jobless workers benefit funds dry, giving them no choice but to ask the US Federal government for aid. As of now, about 33 federal states and the US Virgin Islands used up their funds to borrow to the tune of a whopping total of $38.7 billion to provide a temporary relief to millions of unemployed claimants. As a result of this, states are cost cutting non-necessary services to save cost. Fr... more...
Red Dot Scopes
Politics | By Brian Jones @ Wednesday, 7th April 2010 @ 9:32 AM Firearm holders' use Red Dot Scopes or Red Dot sights on firearms in order to increase their accuracy while they are shooting at their target. This scope is a type of reflex sight that uses a red dot as a reticule onto your desired target, so the shooter knows exactly where they are hitting. Red dot sights are preferred by most entities because it provides a higher level of functionality in comparison to the regular iron sights. When an individual needs to execute in a short space of time, ... more...

Politics | By Archie Mathys @ Thursday, 18th March 2010 @ 12:55 AM US President Barack Obama is urging Congress for a final vote on his health care reform proposal, using an approach in the U.S. Senate that had been successfully used by the previous presidential administration, allowing for a simple majority approval. Obama states in a March 3 2010 White House speech, "It deserves the same kind of up-or-down vote that was cast on welfare reform, the Children's Health Insurance Program, COBRA health coverage for the unemployed, and both Bush tax... more...
