5 Disposable Products You Don't Need
Environment | By Stephanie Foster @ Wednesday, 5th May 2010 @ 2:15 AM

Using disposable products for cleaning around the home has been getting more and more commonplace lately. It's as though the fear of germs not only extends to using antibacterials in just about all soaps, but to using all cleaning materials just once to ensure that the germs don't stick around at all. I get it some ways. I know about the science projects kids can do to show how many germs grow in kitchen sponges and so forth. But a certain amount of germ exposure is a good thing... more...

Solar Power - Don't Waste It!
Environment | By Pete Bumstead @ Monday, 3rd May 2010 @ 10:11 AM

It almost seems that waste is necessary these days. Whatever we buy is double and triple wrapped to ensure its contents are safe, secure, clean etc. We immediately strip all the packaging off and dispose of it. The bin almost certainly has a liner so it doesn't get dirty either! Yet go outside and you'll see plastic bags fluttering in the trees. Fast food wrappers litter the car parks and roadside. Drivers will wind down their windows and throw cigarette packets or sweet... more...

Environment | By Beth Koritz @ Thursday, 29th April 2010 @ 2:17 AM

The average American household has 28 light sockets, and about 10-20 percent of your electricity bill is from lighting. Americans can save money and protect the environment by installing ENERGY STAR qualified lighting. The easiest way to start saving energy is to change out the light bulbs in your current fixtures. A common misconception is - I have the new bulbs in my closet and I'll replace them as they burn out. While it goes against the way we were raised to stop usi... more...

Natural Stain Removers Help Protect The Environment
Environment | By Kara Knapp @ Tuesday, 27th April 2010 @ 11:29 AM

It's a paradox: as more and more consumers look for ways to reduce the environmental impact of the products they buy, they find themselves wondering if there's a natural way to make up for the shortcomings of industrial products. Is there such a thing as a natural product, for example, that removes tablecloth stains made by highly processed foods? Cuts through stains left by that unappealing mixture of aluminum-based antiperspirant and armpit sweat? Gets that bit of factory-lin... more...

Safe Solar Power - Be Electrically Cute not Electrocuted!
Environment | By Pete Bumstead @ Thursday, 22nd April 2010 @ 7:38 PM

Electricity is funny stuff ...you know it's there, you can see its effect (your lights come on!), it's really useful but it just kind'a sits there, lurking behind the sockets, just waiting to jump out and 'get you'! I realise I am being a bit flippant here but to me it makes sense to demystify 'stuff'. Mains electricity tends to frighten people because of a lack of understanding. Electricians like this because it means they can charge lots of money for t... more...

Environment | By Louise Longworth @ Thursday, 22nd April 2010 @ 7:15 PM

Environment | By Christine Harrell @ Thursday, 22nd April 2010 @ 7:13 PM

Recycling programs have been steadily expanding over the past few years throughout municipalities and towns as well as in industry and business. However, there is still a long way to go before everyone gets on board. For example, researchers estimate that 60% of the garbage that ends up in landfills could have been recycled instead. In fact, a recent survey showed that almost 9 out of 10 people would participate in active programs more if it were easier to do so. In the office, there are ... more...

Cleaning, to some degree, is a fact of life. The place we call home needs cleaning on a somewhat regular basis, which necessitates purchasing products that do the job. So what is green cleaning and why should we care about it, particularly in the face of what seems like daunting environmental issues such as climate change and a diminishing global supply of fresh water? What is Green Cleaning? Green cleaning means cleaning to protect health without harming the environment. And we sh... more...

Finding Sources of Energy
Environment | By Terry Mickelson @ Wednesday, 21st April 2010 @ 4:26 PM

The population of the United States is now greater than three hundred million, and that number is certainly not going to decrease any time soon. As the country continues to grow, the energy needs of those people are going to expand as well. With the ever increasing number of electronic devices and appliances, the power requirements of most individuals will continue to grow. The bulk of American electricity is generated by the burning of fossil fuels (coal and oil) and an increasing amoun... more...

The results of climate change is really penetrating deeper into our lives as we are facing many weather and climatic changes that are causing natural disasters like frequent tsunamis, earthquakes and floods all over the world. It has been surveyed that in the last ten years there have been more earthquakes and floods in the world than what was recorded in the last ninety years which clearly tells us that the weather is rapidly changing and soon it might lead into catastrophic events that would w... more...

Where to Start when Looking for Hydroponics Online
Environment | By Lawrence White @ Monday, 19th April 2010 @ 4:02 PM

You may have heard or thought about purchasing hydroponics online. The theory behind hydroponics is plants grow up by absorbing minerals and water contents from the soil. Here, soil is the contributor of these two essential agents. Plants don't need a soil medium if other mineral and nutrient contributors are available. Here is where hydroponics comes into the picture. Scientists say that terrestrial plants can be grown if you offer mineral nutrient solutions such as perlite, mineral wool, ... more...

Definition of Renewable Energy
Environment | By Terry Mickelson @ Monday, 19th April 2010 @ 3:05 PM

"Going green" has a lot to do with recycling, or reusing what's already within the cycle of consumption. In years past this word tended to have a strict use for eco friendly activities, such as separating garbage, administering paper mache, or growing tulips in a garden urn formerly used as a bathroom appliance. Now the heat is really on to find ways to save energy. Concerns over depleting resources compounded with a heavy global reliance on fossil fuels has encouraged environmental... more...
