Culture and Society » Humanities | By Tom Berger @ Sunday, 8th October 2006 @ 4:44 PM

Ten years ago, a Prisoner of War / Missing In Action (POW/MIA) Marathon Team ran from Rochester, New York, to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the national Mall. VVA Chapter 20's Color Guard attended the race's beginning at the Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial. "And we thought," said Ray Melens, "'Wouldn't it be nice if we could meet them in D.C.?' So we did." In each of the intervening years, a special honor guard selected just for this duty ha... more...

Students Chip In To Help Katrina Victims
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Kadence Buchanan @ Tuesday, 29th August 2006 @ 5:19 AM

While most college students on spring break are busy sunning up and partying down in exotic locales such as Cancun, there are others who are content to sacrifice their spring break to help those less fortunate. The deadly hurricane Katrina caused irreparable damage to New Orleans and its surrounding areas, and many sympathetic college students stepped up to the plate to help those in need. Several different charities helped to organize the event which featured the students assisting in a multitu... more...

A Voice in the Wilderness
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Roger Rogers - Jesian @ Monday, 28th August 2006 @ 11:29 AM

I am nobody, and nobody cares for 'a nobody'. Conflicts, terrorism and wars cannot seize to exist. Terrorism is reaching such a climax that could be impossible to control. I quote, "Peace to Come - All religions are fanatical. They all create conflict and war. Peace will rule the world when one day science will destroy all religious fanatic beliefs! That kind of technology is within our reach. The discovery of the phenomenon of gravity, which will in turn reveal the t... more...

Culture and Society » Humanities | By Jaci Rae @ Sunday, 27th August 2006 @ 3:07 AM

In Part I of this two part series, I discussed how to find a date, how to perfect your online profile and discussion topics. In this part, I want to discuss relationships and how to succeed in one. Once you have conquered the dating scene, how do you inspire the person who has sparked your interest in a relationship to want the same? That can be the hardest stepping stone for those who always seem to date, but never find a partner. Why is that? There are many reasons that can... more...

What are the Humanities?
Culture and Society » Humanities | By annalaura brown @ Monday, 7th August 2006 @ 2:32 AM

In reflecting upon this subject, several different definitions come to mind. First of all I think of all the subjects, which are traditionally, included as part of the college of Humanities. These subjects include: English, Foreign Languages, History, Art, Art History, Philosophy, Religion and Communications. In other words all of the subjects, which usually are considered a BA degree and which require two years of study of a foreign language. However, the lines between these subjects an... more...

Being on the Team - Becoming Better Friends
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Jaci Rae @ Tuesday, 1st August 2006 @ 5:41 AM

Men tend to need physical contact to verify their relationships, while women tend to need an emotional connection to validate theirs. Men need that tactile moment that will break the emotional barrier for them and women need emotional stimulation to break the ice with them. Men are more visual and women are more auditory. You can see the conflict that arises and why it seems harder for men to create a friendship with a woman than visa versa. For the visual person it can be hard. Even... more...

So, Was He a Hero or a Traitor?
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Roger Rogers - Jesian @ Thursday, 20th July 2006 @ 10:59 PM

We build our reality on our beliefs. And although we don’t admit that they are only our beliefs we do set our lives by them. They become us – our reality - and woe to anyone who tries to ridicule or challenge our faith. Through the recent discovery of certain biblical-like documents, scholars are now toying with the understanding that Judas was the true buddy of Jesus rather than his traitor. According to these writings, Jesus so trusted Judas that he selected him out of all the ... more...

Your Old Clothes Could Be Blessing For Some One Else - Donate Them To Needy
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Dan Sherman @ Wednesday, 28th June 2006 @ 12:50 AM

There are many ways to donate used clothings to charitable organizations so as to make a difference and improve people's lives. The United Way, the Salvation Army, and Goodwill are just a few of the many organizations that accept donated clothing, so that you can begin to both get rid of excess possessions that you don't need and help other people today. These groups make it very easy for you to give your clothing donations to them, and many of them give you the option of deducting the... more...

Why Does a Witch Dress Like a Witch?
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Sue Redman @ Wednesday, 14th June 2006 @ 2:27 PM

“Double, double, toil and trouble…” McBeth, Shakespeare’s tale of murder and mayhem, is about a battle, with lots of murder and mayhem. Shakespeare adds witches to raise the fight to a supernatural level. Witches in Shakespeare’s day were a frightening symbol of evil, flying with demons in front of the moon. During the Salem Witch Trials. when America was new, the witches were considered very evil. Now, looking back, we think of the "witches" as victims and the Judges and ... more...

Setting Psychic Boundaries part 2
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Katheryn Hoban @ Sunday, 4th June 2006 @ 3:37 AM

But with anything that you are learning and developing you need to do develop your psychic with balance, and caution. You must put a general statement to the universe of what you would like to handle. You set boundaries for what you can and can’t take in. You clearly define the boundaries of contact. You need to remember that at all times you are the one in control and you can stop contact at any time. You shut down your receiver and stop transmitting at will. You need to become aware of wh... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: The Vitruvian Man Supports Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:42 AM

Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and his concept of self actualization, is a very popular model in psychology and business. Leonardo's Vitruvian Man (in a circle, triangle and square) has many similarities, in form and function, to Abraham Maslow's Pyramid Hierarchy of Needs (consisting of a square base, triangular side, and point at the top). Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (the Da Vinci Man with four arms and four legs in a square and circle) is the most... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: The Vitruvian Man Helps Us Understand Religious Symbols
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:38 AM

Understanding how the Vitruvian Man (Da Vinci Man) supports religious symbols can help us experience more wholeness in our life. Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (Da Vinci Man with four arms and four legs in a square and circle) is the most popular secular symbol in the world. My ten years of research indicates amazing similarities between the sacred geometry of the Vitruvian Man (Da Vinci Man), Yin-Yang, Star of David, Tree of Life, Christian Cross, Angels and Kabbalah. Leo... more...

Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:36 AM

The 500th Anniversary of the Mona Lisa Will the Real Mona Lisa Please Sit Down? The Yin and Yang qualities of the two cojoined forms of the Vitruvian Man and those of the Mona Lisa (both considered to be self portraits of Leonardo Da Vinci)help us to experience our own wholeness. This leads to greater peace and happiness. These Yin and Yang qualities are also found in the Star of David and Christian Cross. Leonardo said it best: "The outstretched arms and legs of a man form... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: What Really Happened at Leonardo's Last Supper
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:08 AM

The Real Da Vinci Code, Leonardo's Vitruvian Man, indicates Da Vinci's hidden double meaning of his Last Supper: The Sacrifice and the Resurrection This account is respectful of Christian beliefs. I wish to modify this account as I learn more. I would like to credit Leo Steinberg, author of "Leonardo's Incessant Last Supper" for several ideas in this article. Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (the Da Vinci Man with four arms and four legs in a square and... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: Vitruvian Man Helps Us Experience We Are Human Angels
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:04 AM

We are spiritual beings (the Da Vinci form in a circle) having a material experience (the Da Vinci form in a square). Most of our problems arise from not being loved just the way we are. Accepting our value as a "human angel" means valuing each other more, which leads to greater feelings of inner peace, belongingness, union with the Divine, Divine Creation and all humanity. Leonardo said it best: "The outstretched arms and legs of a man form a square and a circle: the square ... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: Leonardo's Vitruvian Man Facilitates Indivisible Wholeness
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:03 AM

The Real Da Vinci Code, Leonardo's Vitruvian Man, resolves the age-old problem of holism versus atomism. Leonardo said it best: "The outstretched arms and legs of a man form a square and a circle: the square symbolizes the solid physical world and the circle the spiritual and eternal. Man bridges the gap between these two worlds." -Leonardo Da Vinci, "The Magical Proportions of Man" Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (the Da Vinci Man with four arms and ... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: Leonardo Da Vinci is the Vitruvian Man
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 7:02 AM

Leonardo's Vitruvian Man teaches us how to achieve some of Leonardo's greatest qualities. It teaches us how to balance our lives, and thereby, become more whole human beings. Leonardo embodied the qualities of indivisible wholeness suggested by his Vitruvian Man. He was the consummate scientist (Da Vinci Man in the square) and artist (Da Vinci Man in the circle) of his time. Leonardo said it best: "The outstretched arms and legs of a man form a square and a circle: t... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: Leonardo's Vitruvian Man is a Code for Better Relationships
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 6:57 AM

Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man (the Da Vinci Man with four arms and four legs in a square and circle) is the most popular secular symbol in the world. My 10 years of research suggests that the Vitruvian Man is a universal symbol for greater love, relationships, success, health and the new age 21st century paradigm of indivisible wholeness, the paradigm for world peace. A New Renaissance! Leonardo said it best: "The outstretched arms and legs of a man form a square and a circle... more...

The Real Da Vinci Code: Vitruvian Man Helps Us Experience We Are Cosmic Beings
Culture and Society » Humanities | By Allen Rubin @ Thursday, 1st June 2006 @ 6:57 AM

The Real Da Vinci Code, Leonardo's Vitruvian Man is Cosmic Man created in the Image of God. The Vitruvian Man in a circle is Cosmic Man at the center of the universe at the beginning of space and time. This is the experience of enlightenment shared by saints and seers throughout the ages. It is man created in the Image of God. This image is similar to what scientists refer to as "superspace" (from John Wheeler). This is the transcendent, unbounded nature of space prior to the... more...

My 10 years of research suggests that the Vitruvian Man is a universal symbol for greater love, relationships, success, health and the new age 21st century paradigm of indivisible wholeness, the paradigm for world peace.
