The first cable systems used to be antennas placed in a certain manner with extra long cables connecting them to viewers TV sets. At regular levels, amplifiers had to be inserted to make the signal stronger as they tended to become weak after being transmitted through the length of the cable wires. Ever since I saved nearly $2000 off the manufacturer's suggested retail price of my refurbished Sharp LCD HDTV, I've wondered why anybody would pay full price for a set that looks just the same as a brand new one. I've had cable for as long as I can remember. It seemed adequate enough and even though I've watched their prices climb, I always assumed it was just the result of inflation.
