European Delights; My Music Festival Flirtations
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Patrick Omari @ Saturday, 7th June 2008 @ 11:21 PM Gentle panning ariel shots of small brown people splattering about in front of a huge stage, flashing lights beside iconic figures on giant screens and illuminated, joyous faces bobbing amidst flailing elastic arms: this is how I recall televised coverage of our summer music festivals. I've been to a few festivals but have lost enthusiasm for them lately. The main events always seem to sell out before the idea even pops into my head, the tickets are always frightfully expensive and the... more...

Keep Austin Wierd - Austin's Battlecry
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Ki Gray @ Thursday, 5th June 2008 @ 8:28 AM The term "Keep Austin Weird" has become overly used, and some would say Austin "weirdness" is growing increasingly hard to find, with the mass influx of those from other areas bringing their normality to town. Luckily with events like Spamarama, the shrine known as the Cathedral of Junk, and the annual Eeyore's Birthday Party, the city's weirdness shines. In 1978, David Arnsberger, Dick Terry, and George Majewski shared some beer and an idea- they were bored of ... more...

The Conflict Between Ken And Action Man
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Victor Epand @ Sunday, 25th May 2008 @ 12:21 AM Did you know that the Barbie dolls launched way back in 1959? Since then they have sold over three billion dolls to date. That's a lot of Barbie in the world - one between two for every single man, woman and child living on planet Earth at this moment. Every single person in the UK could have fifty of them if they wanted. In fact, if we took every Barbie doll that had rolled out of the factory since their inception, they would stretch right around the globe not once, not twice, but a full t... more...
A Fond Remembrance Of The Rubik's Cube
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Victor Epand @ Saturday, 24th May 2008 @ 11:13 PM I used to have a Rubik's Cube when I was younger. The damn thing nearly drove me up the wall. In the end, I did manage to work out the fastest way of solving it. I'd just peel all the stickers off and place them on the right sides. Either that or, with one good twist, it was possible to unclip all the sides and reassemble the cube in finished form. There was nothing in the instructions to suggest this was against the rules, and personally, I considered it a demonstration of my genius -... more...

Nan Service For The Home Entertainments
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Catherine Harvey @ Monday, 19th May 2008 @ 4:25 AM When it comes to the cribs of the rich and famous, none are complete without the home cinema projector. And let's face it, if you have the average two up, two down a home cinema projector system is going to look a little silly crammed between the wall and the door frame. You'd get a stiff neck trying to watch all the screen and your nan would drive you crazy shuffling backwards and forwards with cups of cocoa. So, these state-of-the-art entertainment systems are best left to tho... more...
How To Go Swimming But Stay Dry
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Victor Epand @ Monday, 19th May 2008 @ 2:10 AM It is only really in recent years that the idea of ball pools has taken popularity, and until very recently, these were really just to be found in adventure playgrounds and activity centres rather than in the home. However, very recently it has become possible and affordable to buy equipment for home based ball pools, and of course, these are proving to be very popular with children. It has to be said that children of toddler age enjoy ball pools, and even those many years older have just as muc... more...
The Office Is Making Huge Waves In Ratings And Cash At The Bank
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Friday, 16th May 2008 @ 12:30 PM In 2001, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant created what is considered one of the funniest British television programs of all time called The Office. The series lasted for two seasons and a two part Christmas special. The series followed a documentary format, although the entire pretense of the show was fictional. The show was noted because of its emphasis on characters that functioned like regular (in some cases not so regular) people with desires, flaws, mannerisms, and traits that wer... more...
The Power Of The Magician
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By MIKE SELVON @ Thursday, 15th May 2008 @ 10:07 PM Magicians today are a far cry from their ancient predecessors. Instead of pulling rabbits out of hats, the magi were guardians of Egyptian kings. Throughout the ages, magic and the magician has evolved greatly and today's illusionist is more of a celebrity than a mystic. In this article, we'll meet the masters of sleight of hand who have laid the foundation for today's renewed interest in the unknown. Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, who opened an illusion theater in Paris in th... more...

Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Tuesday, 13th May 2008 @ 6:32 AM In June of 2004 a comedy show entitled Arrested Development was broadcast on the Fox network. The show was done in a mock documentary format, very similar to the show The Office, and followed the lives of the members of the fictional Bluth family, who lead excessive lifestyles well beyond their actual financial means. 10 Items Or Less Is Bringing Cash Of New Viewers To TBS
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Friday, 9th May 2008 @ 8:46 AM TBS is nearly infamous for its lack of original series. In fact, almost everything that comes on the channel is a cancelled or licensed series that uses reruns several times over. They've used Family Guy, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, and Just Shoot Me until anyone who watches the channel on a daily basis has no need to purchase the DVDs for the series. However, there is a silver lining to all of this, and that silver lining is the TBS original series 10 Items... more...
10,000 BC Making An Advance In History
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Friday, 9th May 2008 @ 8:44 AM Of late, there have been very few examples of historical fiction in the film industry that go beyond just 200 years. Not very much history is explored in films, especially not in the action genre. However, this could be about to change. Director Roland Emmerich, the director who brought us the films Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, Stargate, Universal Soldier, and Independence Day, brings us a vision a life in prehistoric times with the new prehistoric action film 10,000 B.... more...
21 Brings In Cash At More Then The Card Table
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Friday, 9th May 2008 @ 8:18 AM Blackjack is one of the most popular card games in casinos today. With the simple formula of whoever gets 21 or the highest number wins, the game is easy to play and is one of the few card games in which the player has just as much of a chance of being the winner as the dealer. Or at least it would seem. The new film 21 is based on the true story and book Bringing Down the House based on the exploits of four MIT students who were brought together and went to Las Vegas where they attempte... more...
Why Everyone Loves A Christmas Story
Recreation and Leisure » Entertainment | By Kyle Newton @ Friday, 9th May 2008 @ 7:59 AM Christmas trees, fruit cake, presents, carols, bickering relatives, and the sound of an adult telling a bespectacled eight year old boy You'll shoot your eye out! These are some of the most important things of any holiday season. If the last piece of the aforementioned Christmas merriments is unfamiliar to you, then many would say that you have not received the full Christmas experience.
