Children learn well by moving around in a space full of opportunities to speak, listen and try different things. A workbook or textbook assignment is better understood by young children when they get the chance to put what they've learned into action. Elementary Math Success Using Base Ten Blocks
Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Alisa Clark @ Sunday, 28th October 2007 @ 9:48 PM I've been a teacher for over a decade. When I became a teacher I was eager to teach kids differently than I had been taught. So much of how I was taught as a child was motivated by results, scores and performance. If I did well on the standardized test that proved that I was learning. Filling in the right bubble proved that I understood the question and the answer. Sadly, this was far from the truth, because I missed out on understanding what happened in between the question and the an... more...

For this reason a Pep Rally should be much more than a "Yell Practice" session. The cheerleaders have a big responsibility in arousing school spirit and good sportsmanship in their school's athletic contests. It is their responsibility to instill in... more...

Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Jimmy Cox @ Monday, 22nd October 2007 @ 8:48 AM It is not necessary that a great deal of extra work be done in putting on a gym demonstration as almost all the numbers are regular parts of the school's physical education program. The one main thing that contributes more to the success of the demonstration is in the organization of it and in the ease and smoothness in which it goes along. The numbers should not be too long or dragged out so as to tire the audience. This may occur in marching very easily. The numbers should be well... more...

Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Jimmy Cox @ Monday, 22nd October 2007 @ 8:44 AM In order that the audience will have a complete understanding of the purpose of your physical education demonstration and be able to grasp the meaning of each activity, it is necessary to have a leader describe the program as it moves along. Here is a descriptive talk, which may be given along with the program. It will help a great deal to have a loud speaking system. Here's an example of how to open your presentation. Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Craig Clark @ Friday, 12th October 2007 @ 8:27 PM Selecting the right desk for children is extremely important. Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Mort Barish @ Monday, 8th October 2007 @ 2:16 PM Here is a great idea for a science fair project. All you have to do is to research the various languages in the world and memorize just a few words from each one of them. Shouldn't be too hard! In Italian it is "Buon Giorno". In French "Bon Jour". In Israel "Bokar Tov". In Spain it is "Buenos Dias". Don't lose heart. There are only a few more to go. According to the best and latest count, there are about 6,800 different languages in the wor... more...

The 3 Biggest Back To School Mistakes That Can Lower Your Child's Grades
Culture and Society » Education » K-12 | By Pat Wyman @ Wednesday, 29th August 2007 @ 7:44 PM My niece was visiting last week, and when we played a board game, I noticed she was making lots of mistakes that virtually proved she had a vision problem. I knew, if they did not get it fixed right away, it could hurt her grades or even have her labeled as ADD/ADHD. She was going back to school the following week, so I asked her lots of questions and quickly discovered she could barely see the calendar on the wall 10 feet away, and held her book right up to her nose when she read... more...

Robert has a lot of common sense and gradually over the course of the book he becomes more and more "ready" for his encounters with his crazy mento... more...
