You must have heard about Tai Chi, an ancient art form from China. People can be found practicing TaiChi and Qigong in parks or recreation centers all over the country. Housewives are talking about the healing properties of a Chi practice. Even on the internet, loads of good sites can be discovered on Tai Chi; sharing stories of the amazing health and other benefits of Tai Chi, too. This ancient art form has become difficult to ignore, nowadays.

If you just have a vague idea of what Tai Chi is or perhaps you're a Chi expert; here's a look at its inner workings.

Tai Chi was founded by a wise hermit; Chang San Feng. According to the stories Chang San Feng developed Tai Chi after having a vision of two spirits, the crane and the snake. Inspired by this vision, Feng made thirteen postures which led to the forms we now know as Tai Chi.

In the early days, the time of the inception of Tai Chi so many wars and battles were raging, so Tai Chi was primarily a martial art and evolved into a way of life. As Chang San Feng, was a Taoist monk, so Taoist principles of slow over fast, strong over weak and low over high were incorporated in Tai Chi.

Over the years there has been birth of different forms of Tai Chi. The most common of these varied forms are the Wang, the Wu, the Wu Hao, the Chen and the Sun style. Although the Chen style is most representative of the original form but Yang style is most widely practiced.

Tai Chi is mainly characterized by slow and gentle Kung Fu style movements, a moving meditation. Tai Chi has various forms depending on the number of postures. The short form of Tai Chi has 24 postures, the mid form has 40 and a long form with 108 distinct postures. The long form of Tai Chi is performed flawlessly by mainly an experienced Tai Chi enthusiast. What separates.

Performing Tai Chi is equivalent to performing aerobics and gymnastics. Tai Chi leads to exercising the brain due to the meditation involved during performing this art form and so it also serves as a mental gym.

Because of the profound and multiple health benefits associated with Tai Chi, most folks normally take up a Chi Practice for health and wellness purposes rather than as a combat or martial art form.

Although there are certain people who still practice traditional Tai Chi as a martial art but this number is fast depleting.
