Is Sunburn is plainly a burn on your skin? What is Sunburn? Sunburn is the result of one being exposed to too much of sun or sun-equivalent exposure. It is a burn caused from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If you are simply out in the sun or spending the day at the beach, maybe you are working in the yard or just out there fishing, there is a good chance you can get sunburned.

Another source of sunburn can be the improper use tanning bed. Sunburn causes inflammation of the skin, injury can start within 30 minutes of being exposed to the sun and can be quite discomforting and disabling; in some cases it can also be life-threatening and is known to be a leading cause of skin cancer.

Mild and uncomplicated cases of sunburn usually result in skin redness and irritation, pain is usually extreme 6 to 48 hours after being exposed. As the burn continues to develop, chances are that peeling of the skin would begin in 3 to 8 days. The peeling and itching may continue for several weeks.

Other common symptoms of sunburn include chills, fever, nausea or vomiting, blistering & skin loss. Sunburn with enough exposure and untreated can cause an individual to experience shock; it may be fatal and even the cause death.

Well as the old saying goes Prevention is better than cure! And the prevention of sunburn is to keep out of the sun as much as possible. But when you have to venture out, make sure you take the necessary precautions and try as much as possible to cover most of your exposed skin by wearing wide hats, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants.

Applying sunscreen or a variety of sun-blocking agents is recommended. Some are just for the lips and face. Others are for more general-purpose use. It is essential to reapply the sun screen often for effective protection.

But incase you still do end up getting a sunburn dont fret! Consult a doctor and ask about sunburn, if the burn is too severe or try our some simple home remedies. Use a cool compress with equal parts of milk and water. Gently squeeze out the cloth and apply on the sunburned area for 15-20 minutes, continuing the process for 2-3 hours will help.

Aloe-based lotions can work wonders too. Cool Baths may help, try to avoid bath salts, oils and perfumes because they may produce sensitive reactions. Dont shave or scrub the effected skin, rather use soft towels to gently dry yourself. Avoid the sun and tanning beds! Its always advisable to consult a specialist to seek more sunburn information and keep him posted on your recovery
