High end machines are known for their durability, so unless a machine is very old or clearly worn down, it's hardly likely that your secondhand branded elliptical will underperform. But smart buyers would often aim to cut the cost of buying genuine branded machines by buying secondhand. This is also workable.
You can always check the remaining time left on the warranty - if the warranty is still good, and you can have the warranty transferred once you gain ownership of the item, this would give added value to the purchase. A warranty for an Octane machine, for example, usually lasts 3 years for parts and service. But as with the Precor and Life Fitness machines, you have a lifetime guarantee on the frame itself. Getting an extended warranty on parts and service for an investment like an elliptical machine is always recommended.
Part of what you pay for when you're getting a high end device is excellent service. Registering your product at the company website or mailing in your product registration card allows you avail of the company's repair services. You will need to input information that is printed on the machine itself, to ensure that there is no mistake about the authenticity of the product. And if you're after the benefits of a genuine Life Fitness, Precor or Octane elliptical machine, authentic is the only way to go.
