In 1727, at age 21, Ben Franklin created the Junto with 12 of his friends. They met weekly for discussion, improvement of self and community and as "a surreptitious instrument for leading public opinion."
He set a high standard of excellence for his group that has paid off with benefits lasting nearly 300 years - like public libraries, hospitals, insurance companies, fire departments, street lights, paved streets, and many, many more.
