Headlight restoration 101 By Jerry Pittman
Headlight restoration 101 What the caveman won't tell you.
There are numerous products on the market that claim to clean your lens using a process of buffing, sanding, grinding and multiple steps. Some times hours worth of work. Guess what! The same oxidation you take off today will return in time. You will need to clean your lens again. Do you want to have to do that every year? Think of the time you will waste repeating the job and in most cases now you have to buy another cleaning kit. Headlight cleaning does not last for ever. Oxidation will build back up again over time. There is no one time fix. The sealers used by these kits do more harm than good. Initially they give the headlight a nice gloss but that gloss does not last and it will turn yellow and peels off your lens. Now your lens can't be cleaned by any other method than the buffing and grinding method you used before. You have given your self a life sentence of annually spending hours restoring your headlights, making the lens thinner and thinner with each application. Eventually you will have to replace your lens and look how much money and time you will have spent. The Cavemen have used this tried and true method since the beginning to keep you coming back. They will try to divert you from new technology back to their methods. After Pittman"s revolutionized the market the cavemen came out with several versions of liquid head light cleaner in a effort to compete. All of them were based on caveman technology and used abrasives elements in creams and are still a multi step process.
"Cavemen cannot compete with that which they do not understand"
Pittman's Original One Step uses chemistry and Bio-technology to create a pure liquid non abrasive formula that reacts with oxidation on acrylic at the molecular level. Creating a electrical charge that produces a magnetic effect on the weakened acrylic surface absorbing oxidized acrylic from the surface of the lens leaving it crystal clear in seconds. The cave man is trying to redesign the wheel while we have shifted into warp drive. Whats more valuable than your time? Pittman's is safer, faster and more cost effective

PITTMAN'S ORIGINAL ONE STEP AUTOMOTIVE LENS RESTORER / ACRYLIC LENS RESTORER / ALR / LIQUID DE-OXIDIZER $23.95 + S&H WORLD WIDE Your restored lens will last as long as a new lens and remain clear. Oxidation removed will not return. Washing and waxing your car by hand or automatic car wash, will only improve the appearance of your lens. Pittman's is not a cream or a paste that can be washed off. Pittman's does not rely on harsh or dangerous chemicals. We use chemistry and the natural reaction of nature to create the pure liquid de-oxidizer: PITTMAN'S ORIGINAL ONE STEP ALR. Caveman technology have you to resurface the lens with machine buffing. Machine buffing adds an element of danger and can take up to a half a hour or more, strips off the protective UV coating and dulls the Lens with super fine scratches, leaving your Lens exposed to sun, dirt and rain not to mention the extra expense of buying a power drill and the drain on the electric bill. Remember: "Just say no to Sandpaper on your Headlights!". A lot of instructions mean a lot of work. Why waste time and money using out dated Caveman technology?
Unless someone has used abrasives cleaners on your headlight lens, it can be restored to like new in seconds and its easy as polishing glass! Abrasives solid or in cream form will damage the factory UV coating applied to the lens surface.
The creams are little more than diluted rubbing compounds designed for painted surfaces. Some sellers sell toothpaste as a headlight cleaner. It will give you the same results. Fine scratches that will dull your headlight lens.
Using sandpaper will cost you hours of time and destroy your headlight's factory UV coat.
BEWARE THE SELLER WHO DOES NOT SHOW YOU WHAT THEIR PRODUCT LOOKS LIKE.
Todays Automotive lens are made of high impact Acrylic. This allows for a variety of shapes and sizes, making the headlight configuration of today, one of the most diverse in design history. They are all but perfect in their construction. The Acrylic material of which the headlight are comprised are versatile and beautiful but it has a limited life expectancy. Unlike Glass which would last virtually forever, climate creates rapid changes in the appearance of exposed Acrylics. Headlights rapidly oxidize ( cloud up ) when exposed to salt air and excessive sunlight. The standard method is to buff or sand the lens until the oxidation is removed. This caveman approach caused damage to the lens surface that consists of fine scratches that begin to reveal themselves to you the first time you wash your car.
Another method which is a new concept is to clean with a wipe on product, dry and seal the lens with a polyurethane finish. It looks good if done properly when its fresh however within months the exposure of the polyurethane to the sun will turn it yellow and only paint stripper or sanding can remove the sealer. Many products claim that their product will make your cars headlights look like brand new out of the box. They use tricks with photography to make their products results look better than it really is.
These products priced from $5 to $40 dollars. All require multiple stops to completion and the use of abrasives. None will tell you that their product results will not last for ever, The fact is that oxidation will eventually return and will have to be removed again. Thats a job that never ends.
