How To Keep Your Cheap Insurance

How To Keep Your Cheap Insurance

Okay, so you've managed to find a great cheap insurance company who've cut you some really good rates. Now, how do you keep those rates down? Because let's be honest, anyone who wants to shop around can FIND cheap insurance, but KEEPING it is where the challenge comes in. So how do you "fly under the radar", so to speak and keep those rates down? Read on.

Keep it Quiet

We're not saying to commit insurance fraud here or anything ridiculous like that, but when you get into a little fender bender that you can easily cover out of pocket, why on Earth would you bring the insurance company in on the action? Whenever you can handle things without any insurers or courts stepping in to manage everything, do so. Even if you think that maybe you're not the one at fault, court costs and higher insurance rates will far outweigh what you'll save proving yourself in the right in a court of law. Settle things out of court and on your own whenever possible.

Maintain Your Wheels

A well maintained car typically means lower rates in the long run. You don't have to buy a new car, you don't have to go in for major repairs, you can just keep that car going smooth and keep your rates down. The better you take care of your car, the safer you'll be and the lower your insurance rates will stay.

Don't Be "Married" to Your Insurer

Look, you never know when you might find a company that can offer you even lower rates. Now obviously, once you've got some great, low rates, you want to keep them, but you never know when, say, your five years of safe driving will mean lower rates at insurer X, but NOT with the people you're currently covered by. Whenever your situation changes, whenever a year goes by with no incidents or claims, go ahead and check around and see if you want to renew your insurance with these guys or with someone else.

Keep it Safe

This SHOULD go without saying, but sadly, that's not always the case! If you haven't figured it out by now: Every single incident, accident, fender bender and claim can bump your rates with most insurers. The safer you drive, the lower your rates. Never let your guard down. Even if you're just pulling out of the parking lot at work, be sure you don't bang up your shocks on that pain-in-the-butt speed bump on the way out.
