Finding a Top Quality Tyre Compressor By Lawrence White
A tyre compressor is a device that is designed for inflating tyres. Though a simple hand-held pump can also be used as a tyre inflator, it will take a considerable amount of time and energy. Normally, car owners use automatic compressors for this job. This ensures that in the case of an emergency, when they are faced with a flat tyre, they are back on the road in no time.
You would have seen commercial tyre compressors at fuelling stations and these are powerful and capable of handling multiple automobiles. For individual use, a tyre with a capacity of one to a couple of gallons (up to 7.5 litres) of air should be sufficient. But in a commercial setting, or for people who handle a collection of cars, a larger capacity should be opted for. Alternatively, a roadside tyre inflator may also be considered for individual use. A roadside compressor is very small in size and can be plugged into a normal electrical outlet, or even used with the electrical current within the car. The DC outlet in the car, which is popularly known as cigarette lighter, can be used for connecting the device. Though it takes a longer time to inflate than a standard air compressor, the benefit of portability comes as a great advantage when in emergency situations.
Roadside tyre inflators come with a built-in air pressure gauge. This helps the user check the correct air pressure in a tyre. Some inflators offer an automatic air pressure gauge with user-defined air pressure. The tyre inflator stops automatically once the pre-set air pressure is reached. Other compressors come with manual air pressure gauges. Compressors often come with other helpful features such as a flashlight, to help find the tyre's valve stem while in dark or in other emergencies. Others include a yellow warning light, used as a warning for oncoming traffic.
To enhance portability, a roadside tyre inflator may also include an onboard battery. Thus, the unit can be used wirelessly. However, users should exercise caution since the unused rechargeable batteries can discharge if unused for a long time. Thus, even if the inflator is not used for some time, the batteries should be recharged every month or before starting off on a long journey. The choice of the type of tyre compressor that one should buy depends on the extent and type of usage one needs it for. However, it is always a good idea to carry a roadside tyre inflator while travelling long distances, or visiting places that are remote and where help might not be readily available. This piece of equipment will save a lot of hassles and delays.
Apart from inflating tyres, the air compressor can also be used in anything that needs to be inflated or deflated. It can be used to inflate a mattress while camping; pool toys and floaters can also be inflated or deflated using air compressors. A small handy air compressor can do a job in a matter of seconds that would normally a very time and effort consuming activity.
