Accommodating Pets Through Home Decoration By Terry Daniels
An expecting mother revels in the anticipation of the little one that they will soon welcome into their home. She will purchase diapers, clothes, and toys far in advance.
She may even decorate a room specifically for the child that will be a great addition to their family. Often, pets are also considered fulfilling additions to any family.
In preparation of welcoming a pet into your home, the home will also require a little adjustment to fully support this new addition. If you are planning on remodeling, be sure to incorporate what your pet will need into the design.
One of the biggest mistakes committed by cat lovers is installing beautiful, lacy curtains. These kinds of curtains are perfect for cats to claw their way up and shred their way down.
This mistake requires a simple adjustment. Simply plan ahead and select gorgeous curtains that do not encourage cats to climb them.
Another important consideration is which furniture will be able to endure the roughest treatment from a pet and still look nice. Upholstered furniture that has very resistant, durable fabric is the best for the energetic activities of any somewhat trained house animal.
Animals that are being house-trained will sometimes go to the bathroom in the wrong places. If this is the case you will want to make sure that the fabric, carpet, and other floor surfaces in your home are easy to clean.
Animal feces smell really bad and it is best to get them out as quickly as possible. It is best to make sure that the fabric is easily cleaned in general, because animals with fur or feathers shed.
Some animals loose so much hair that it is impossible to keep the house free of it. In this case, you may want to select furniture that is a color that will hide the hair.
Evaluate the roughness of your animal. If you own a dog that loves to tear things up, try leather covered furniture as this will resist him the most.
If your cat loves to sharpen their claws, leather will show it and is not an ideal choice. In general cotton polyester, chintz, and microfibers are the most popular and durable fabrics for typical pet abuse.
Pets love wood because it is an ideal substance for sharpening claws and biting when teething. If you own young pets, you may want to consider purchasing furniture with metal, glass, or plastic legs to prevent scratch marks.
The flooring of your home can have huge impact on your pet. If you own an older pet that has difficulty walking due to balance issues and wobbly joints, a hard or slick surface may be very hard for them to maneuver.
Floors are also more susceptible to damage by dogs because they are bigger, stronger, and have larger claws. The nature of a dog is rougher and more playful, lending to the risk that a floor faces.
With all of this kept in mind, select a flooring that will provide sufficient traction for your pet, but that will stand up to their antics. However, if you must have a smooth floor, consider placing rugs at various intervals to help your pet along.
These rugs will also protect your walls and furniture by helping to stop your dog from running and sliding into them. You may also want to cover your stairs in carpet so that your pet will not become seriously injured by slipping down the stairs.
Pets love rugs because they are great places for them to relax and take naps. As they sleep on the rugs, they will take up less room and time sleeping on the couch or bed.
By considering the needs of your pet and optimizing your decoration for them, you will save yourself much time and hassle. Your pet will know how much that you love them and your home can still have a fabulous new look.
