This restricts, or limits, the amount of food that the patient can take in. By reducing this, the total amount of calories is limited and helps the patient to lose weight
Another method is altering the patient's digestive tract. This type of procedure reduces the amount of intestine. By removing a portion of the intestine it limits the amount intestine that the food is in contact with. When there is less intestine that food comes into contact with the fewer calories that the body absorbs causing the patient to lose the pounds.
There is also a newer kind of surgery for weight loss, the band type. This type puts a band around the upper part of your stomach to help restrict the amount of food that you eat. Like the restrictive procedure you feel fuller without eating more than a cup or so of food at a time. This is an ideal option for those who don't want to go with the full stomach stapling.
Those that want to lose the pounds any one or combinations of these procedures could be the answer. If you are what is considered extremely over weight and have tried diet and exercise you should see your doctor. Discussing your options with your doctor can get you on the right track to weight loss surgery.
As with any operation there are risks that your doctor will discuss with you. He will discuss your options so that you have the correct procedure for you. Those that have any type of restrictive operation will be told how to eat less, drink fewer fluids and all other guidelines that you should know. Not following your doctor's guidelines can result in undoing the procedure.
If your physician isn't a bariatric surgeon speak to him about a referral to a certified surgeon. You don't want just any type of physician performing this type of operation on you so be sure you can get the best care possible. Bariatric surgery is a good way for you to lose the pounds when nothing else works.
