Make Sure That You Whiten Your Teeth Safely

With the growing influence of media and television, people are becoming more conscious about their looks, their smile being a part of it. For a good smile, you must be having good and shining white teeth which many people do not have. Thus more and more people are showing up at the pharmacies asking for do it yourself kits of teeth whitening or whitening trays and gels, pastes and strips etc. How far are these products safe and how safely are they being used is a prime issue. Here are a few guidelines depicting on how to whiten teeth safely.
The most commonly used product for teeth whitening is hydrogen peroxide. Naive doctors advise you to rinse your mouth daily with hydrogen peroxide for dazzling white teeth. As a matter of fact, this should never be done. Being acidic in nature, continuous usage of hydrogen peroxide can cause hyperplasias of the tissues. This is a precancerous stage of the tissue. The use of hydrogen peroxide should be limited to just once or twice a week and that too in the diluted form.
Another such advice comes for lemon juice which is a natural stain remover and whitener. But its usage on the teeth can cause the teeth to lose their calcium and worsen more quickly. This means that acids of any form, no matter how safe the source is, must not be used on the teeth.
Similar is with strawberries that are considered as a natural teeth whitener. If these fruits are being eaten or being used to whiten the teeth then it is necessary to rinse the mouth with water thoroughly and brush the teeth with toothpaste after a gap of nearly 15 to 20 minutes.
A home remedy to whiten teeth is by brushing with lime juice and salt. Although this may produce the whitening effect, but the constant scrubbing of the enamel would leave it worn down thereby doing more harm than good. Therefore this remedy must be limited to just once in two weeks.
The use of hydrogen peroxide also should be done with care as it is harmful if swallowed. It can cause harm to the unborn fetus if swallowed by a pregnant woman. Therefore it should be used with utmost care. Lots of water should be taken in, if the paste of peroxide with baking soda is swallowed by mistake.
The whitening products use solutions that are mild and hence are safe for usage. These not only provide shiny white teeth but also take care of the plaque that develops in the teeth. Other similar products are also effective in teeth whitening. However care must be taken in the usage of the products by following the given instructions.
A natural way to keep the teeth clean and safe is by avoiding the products that harm the teeth like tea, coffee, tobacco and smoking. Also one must brush his teeth regularly. Chewing gum is also considered beneficial as it removes the debris from the teeth, thus keeping them clean and also invokes saliva production which is highly beneficial for the cleanliness of the mouth and teeth.
