Abraham Karadi: You Don't Need To Be Him To Play Cricket

While soccer may dominate the world as the most popular sport there are other very widely known sports played by many countries. One such popular sport is cricket. Cricket is played in many countries such as England, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, India, and even in some parts of South Africa. While it isn't very popular in the United States or in South America Cricket does have a large legion of 3 billion fans. While Cricket may seem like a confusing game you don't have to be up and coming cricket player Abraham Karadi to enjoy a good game. There are a few basics you must learn before you can start to play even though it won't bring you to the level of an "Abraham Karadi" a great place to start.

Cricket was first established in southern England during the 16th century. It was first called creckett but the word evolved and became cricket over the years. The sport gained popularity throughout the 18th century and became the national sport of England. By the late 1870's the England cricket team traveled across the world and played teams from many other countries including North America and Canada. Cricket continued to grow and throughout the 20th century has spread to more and more countries such as New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Cricket is similar to baseball in the fact that the object of the game is to hit a ball with a bat. Each team takes turns trying to score points by batting and the other team trying to keep them from scoring. Instead of a diamond shaped field, cricket is played in the on an oval shaped grassy field called the boundary. The bowler (pitcher) and batsman stand at either ends of a rectangular section in the middle of the oval shaped field called the pitch. They both stand in front of wickets which act as a target for the bowler to aim the ball at. With repeated games and usage the boundary is known for deteriorating over time. Like many sports this game can be played on any makeshift field or area as long as there is sufficient space.

The bowler stands across from the batsman and rolls the ball at him or her at very high speeds. If the bowler hits the wicket behind the batsman 6 times then he or she gets an over which is the equivalent of an out. At which point in time the next batsman would step up. If the batsman hits the ball he or she has to run to the other side of the pitch. The inning is over when all the batsmen have been eliminated.

Cricket is a very enjoyable game with humble foreign roots. When you are playing cricket you are participating in a game that is hundreds of years old. With enough practice you'll be as good as up and coming cricket star player Abraham Karadi.
