Pain In The Neck Or Serious Neck Pain

By Chris Tomshack

Pain In The Neck Or Serious Neck Pain

You are a pain in the neck. Have you ever wondered where that saying came from? Neck pain is so common, it is no wonder everyone uses it. But why is it that everyone suffers from neck pain? Is it something we have to suffer from or is it something that can be prevented?

Believe it or not, you don't have to suffer from neck pain. The most common reasons for neck pain are tension (duh) and misalignment. We'll start with tension. Tension or stress as most will call it, is caused by many reasons including work, family, or illness. Sometimes something as simple as a neck pillow can reduce the tension in the neck and make neck pain fade away.

Proper support at night can do wonders for stress relief as well. When you think about it, your head weighs quite a bit and your neck has to support that weight. A pillow that keeps the neck in alignment while you sleep takes the pressure off the vertebrae while you sleep, allowing your neck to fully relax.

Occasionally, the muscles in your neck get tight and cause the vertebrae in your neck to become slightly misaligned. This can cause both neck pain and headaches. A quick visit to a chiropractor can realign the vertebrae and make the headache and neck pains disappear.

Visiting a chiropractor on a weekly basis also works as a preventative measure. I know it sounds surprising, but it really does work. A weekly visit can actually prevent neck pain and headaches. Many people have tension headaches and chronic neck pain that can be relieved by regular chiropractor visits.

Of course, there are more serious causes for neck pain like herniated disks. A herniated disk, also known as a slipped disk, is when a disk is slightly misaligned putting pressure on the spinal cord. The added pressure presses on the nerve causing pain. The pain can become unbearable and people will often seek medical treatment.

When a person seeks a medical doctor as compared to a chiropractic doctor for a herniated disk, the prescribed treatment is often painful injections or risky surgery. While both these methods are approved procedures, they can be costly. What many people don't know is that chiropractic measures are also approved and are also covered under most private insurance.

Chiropractic treatment for a herniated disk varies but often involves Progressive Rehabilitation, muscle stimulation, massage, chiropractic adjustment, and physical therapy. Many chiropractors also help their patients through the use of whole body health and nutrition.

The best part of chiropractic care is that is noninvasive and safe. Chiropractors are real doctors that go through years of school followed by strenuous licensing exams. Then they have to maintain their license by continuing their education and are regulated by a state board.

When you see a chiropractor, you can rest assured that you will be examined by highly qualified doctor using state of the art technology. There is no need to suffer from neck pain now or in the future when chiropractors offer safe and effective preventative treatment.
