Others will choose an adult cat, because they do not have the tolerance, patience and energy to deal with the training involved with owning a kitten, i.e. litter training, furniture climbing and the curious nature of all kittens. Also, since adult cats are less likely to be adopted than their cuter counter-parts, some people will choose a cat instead. There are definitely pros and cons regarding both.
There are a number of advantages to choosing a kitten, which are that you will have the chance of watching them grow and mature, and that you will be able to play with them as kittens are quite amusing in their curiosity.
Also, they will form a unique bond with you and your family at a young age which will last forever. You will also see that the kitten's medical history will be known somewhat by you, because the kitten will have been in your presence for most of its life. And, you will have the pleasure of enjoying more years with them. You will also know their age and they will probably have a better temperament around you.
You will identify that there are other advantages to buying and owning an adult cat, and the main one being that they will be litter trained, and to some owners this is a huge plus mark. Because adult cats are more calmer and not as likely to destroy your sofa, many people prefer this less complicated approach.
Also, an adult cat will most likely be already spayed or neutered which is another job that you won't need to do. You can also go to work knowing that they will be okay on their own and that you will not need to worry about them getting into trouble. Many people will choose the best approached and reason for buying a cat, that adopting it will save its life.
If you are confused about whether you want a long- or short-haired cat, you should keep in mind that grooming that a long-haired cat will take considerably longer. Even thought they maybe beautiful, you will need to keep up with the costs as the grooming is quite expensive. If you are looking at a semi-longhaired cat, then they will also need grooming around a few times a week. So, if you are looking for low costs and hassle free, then you should choose a short-haired cat.
If choosing the sex of a cat comes into question, always remember to choose a cat of the opposite sex if you already have a cat, this will limit sexual competition. Also remember, if you have cats of the opposite sex, make sure you have them spayed or neutered. Depending on if you want one cat or kitten or more, there are advantages and disadvantages in that area as well.
The different advantages consist of kittens having one another for company; meaning they may not require as much attention from you. Also, the interaction between kittens can be quite amusing for you and your family to watch. If you then decide to get another cat down the road, when you introduce them to the other cats, it will be a lot easier.
There are though many disadvantages to having numerous cats or kittens - you will find they will get upon top a lot of trouble and the cost of owning multiple cats is considered to be considerably high. If the unfortunate thing happens and one of the cats dies, then you will need to understand the others will be affected. Also, you will need to think about which age of cat will be right for you. Then, after you get your cat, you will see many years of enjoyment.
