I got into the computer industry back in the days when we used to make $1,000 profit on a new 286 computer system. A few years later when I started dealing in computer software I doubled my money at a minimum wholesale. When a product is first introduced in the marketplace profit margins are very good. Profits decrease when too many people start dealing with it.
When researching other products to see how well they are selling, what they sell for and what they can be obtained for there are many tools online for doing this type of research. EBay is a great place to perform this research. To be able to search on EBay for more than one item at a time you can use tools that Andale provides or by using this utility called HotBid.
Ebay probably won’t admit it but Adult DVD’s are the number one selling category. The best selling items on Ebay changes often so you must constantly monitor this site.
Wal-Mart sells regular DVD movies starting at $6.88. If you do your research you can obtain the same movies for under $3 each. I have also found that consumers will pay almost as much for a used DVD movie as they would for a new one.
You can also use accessory items to increase the profit margins on other products. Let’s say you sell computers, a very low profit margin item these days. You can sell software for this computer to try to increase the overall profit margin. Also items like CD Wallets, Computer cleaning kits, etc.. If you sell notebook computers you increase the margin by adding a laptop carrying case to go with it. Also, most computers these days come with a DVD player so like multimedia kits of the early nineties you could put together a bundle of budget movies which just increases the value in the consumers mind.
Everything you bundled increases your overall profit margins while at the same time increasing the value in your customers mind.

As Seen on TV Products, Digital Cameras, imports from Asia, Middle East, parts of Africa (A retail boxed RF Optical mouse you can buy from Asia for about $5 and retail it for as high as $20).
Video Game accessories are also hot products and can be obtained from countries like China. Platinum gold jewelry wholesales over here for about $120 per gram but you can buy this same platinum gold jewelry from China, Thailand, and other countries for about $15 per gram.
When you buy a new car from the dealership they add things like rust proofing and extended warranties so they can increase their profit. I used to sell cars and we would add a $995 rust proofing package to every new car that we sold, we had a cost of less than $50 in that rust proofing package
