Fall fishing has definitely kicked into high gear in Southeast Louisiana By Uptown Angler
http://www.uptownangler.com Fall fishing has definitely kicked into high gear in Southeast Louisiana. A magical thing seems to happen in Louisiana when October hits. The outdoors begins to pull people from their sofas, home computers and office cubicles.
There's a little "nip" in the air that lets us know it's a good time to get on the water. So far, October has been an epic month for fly-fishing and things should only get better as we get further into Fall.
As true for almost any time of year, it seems to best to fish the falling tide when possible and crab patterns, like Waldner's Terminator Crab, are king. So far in October, we've had a number of "blue bird" days, making for some fantastic site fishing opportunities and anglers are starting to see a few of those big "Bull Reds" show up in places.
Although a good stout 8wt. rod like the Sage TCX will handle almost any situation, this is a time of year where a 10wt. like the Sage Xi2 is certainly justified. We recommend fishing a line that is stiff enough to turn over the heavier flies yet will cause minimal frustrations in colder conditions.
The line we prefer and recommend as an ideal line for versatile conditions is the Mastery Series Redfish lines from Scientific Angler. Spool that up on a reel like the smooth-running Hatch 7plus or 9plus and you'll have an outfit that is ready for whatever the Redfish and Mother Nature can throw at you.
Also keep in mind that as it cools down, it's easy to forget sun protection, so make sure that your Buff Sun Mask is in your tackle bag. Also, as it get's cooler, a good waterproof jacket like the Simms G4 Pro Jacket is essential for ensured comfort on the boat, especially for those morning runs. Even when it's a beautiful day, you still sometimes get a little wet from boat spray.
I guess you can just assume that when you're on a boat, there's a good chance of getting wet at some point. In any event, the weather is beautiful, the fish are biting, and Uptown Angler has everything you need to be perfectly outfitted for your days on the water. Hurry and get down to see us at the corner of Camp & Julia and then hurry to get on the water.
