Wet Carpet And Sewage Cleanup- Common Problems And Their Remedies

Whether it is some natural calamity like floods, or as simple as your water heater causing leakage in your home, dealing with wet carpet is a situation which demands immediate response. Allowing your wet carpet to remain submerged in sewage-contaminated water can lead to severe damage rendering it unfit for use. Therefore, it's best to take immediate measures to remove water from your carpet to avoid growth of any mold or mildew in the wet. If for some reason you are unable to immediately remove the carpet from the water, it will become a herculean task to get it cleaned completely as mold and mildew find this as a convenient place to flourish. It is best to discard it and avoid any health problems in the near future.

Allowing your wet carpet to remain submerged in water can result in numerous problems which include mold and mildew, a nasty foul smell, heavy soiling, deterioration of the carpet, delaminating and organic decay. The most serious concern about a wet carpet is the presence of mold and mildew. Whatever needs to be done should be followed with delay. If the carpet has become damaged severely, then its best to discard away. You must clean the floors before dealing with the wet carpet to minimize the chances of mildew and odor.

To save your wet carpet from getting stained do not allow anything to come in contact with your carpet and try not to walk on the carpet in this state. Do not commit the mistake of spreading newspaper on it as it may leave the carpet stained with ink. Follow with immediate water extraction and use adequate drying equipment to save your carpet back to its original condition.

If it's glued then if it is rolled or folded it might result in the delaminating of the carpet backings. In such situations, it is best to remove carpet pads after it has become completely dry. It is always advisable to clean a glued-down carpet in place. Hopefully it's in a room with concrete floors and a proper working drain. Use a wet-and-dry vacuum to extract mud and water from the carpet or simply use a garden hose to flush the water and mud away from the carpet.

One of the common problems with any wet carpet includes organic decay, especially when the carpet is flooded with contaminated water filled with dirt and debris. It gives it a nasty smell. To get rid of such smells on carpet, you can use a carpet cleaner with white vinegar and water. This will get the carpet soft and free from foul smell. Another good remedy for removing smells on your wet carpet is an enzyme spray. The enzymes will eat the bacteria that produce the odor.

These are some of the common tips which can help restore your wet carpet back for use in your home.
