Eliminating Mold Damaged Areas In Your House

If your home has ever had a flood that was caused either from a natural disaster or just a really heavy plumbing break, chances are if it did not cleaned up well enough to dry out the water thoroughly, you could have had mold to develop in some hidden places. This can also happen easily if you have had an ongoing leak that keeps an area damp or even wet for long periods of time. This is when mold can develop and really spread and multiply.

Having a home that has obvious mold growth or even worse the hidden mold that you do not even know is there, can make for a very unhealthy living situation for you and your family. Even your pets can be affected by the mold spores that can very well be traveling in the air throughout your home. People and pets can breathe in these mold spores and they can cause all kinds of allergies and some serious breathing problems for anyone who has a compromised immune system already If you or one of your family members or a pet is suffering from some unexplainable breathing or allergy issues, maybe you should do some inspecting for mold.

IF you find mold growing on a ceiling or wall, it is likely due to a ventilation problem because of too much moisture in the air that has no where to escape. Exhaust fans can remedy this problem usually. Sometimes when you live in a humid region, the air will be naturally moist and can cause dampness. If you have ever been camping outdoors and noticed your sleeping bag might feel damp, this is normally caused by humid damp conditions. It works similar to that in your home. Obvious visible mold can usually be remedied with a mold killing cleaner that has chlorine, although there are natural products that will kill it also.

Mold in woodwork or sheetrock is a different matter. These things could have to be torn out and replaces if the mold has penetrated the surface. IF the problem has not gotten too bad, you might be able to tear out a small affected area on your own, but if you find there is extensive mold growth behind a wall or underneath a floor, you should have the home inspected by a professional and probably allow them to tackle the problem to ensure all mold is destroyed and whatever reason allowed it to grow in the first place is remedied.
