Different Forms of Natural Healing By fred jones
Alternative medicine is rapidly becoming more and more popular in today’s society. What exactly is alternative medicine you ask? It is actually a very broad category that encompasses pretty much any form of healing that does not conform to what is commonly referred to as “conventional medicine.” I am sure that you have tried or have at the very least heard of some form of alternative medicine. Be it yoga, herbal medicines, chiropractic, or acupuncture they are all forms of what are considered alternative medicine.
One of the most popular and rapidly growing forms of alternative medicine is likely yoga. Although there are many schools of yoga, the one that is most commonly referred to is Hatha Yoga. Yoga puts an emphasis on both mental discipline and physical strength and flexibility. The practice greatly involves a wide variety of set postures and breathing in its use. As far as health benefits go, it is widely known to help with stress and other mental burdens, although there are also claims of additional and extravagant health benefits associated with yoga.
Acupuncture is another form of alternative medicine that is quite popular. Acupuncture is the practice of using needles on specific points of the body. The points on which the needles are inserted are called meridians in which it is believed that the body’s energy flows through. Acupuncture is mainly thought of as a therapeutic treatment for pain, but it has also been stated that acupuncture can be used as a complementary treatment for other problems such as weight loss, drug detoxification, and sleep disorders.
Chiropractic is a form of medicine that focuses mainly on the spine. The practice involves therapy and manipulation of the spine and joints based on the thought that problems such as misalignment or dysfunction of the spine can bring about problems with a body’s ability to naturally function and heal. In conjunction with therapy of the spine, chiropractic practices also include exercises and general counseling to rehabilitate a patient. Common cases that chiropractors deal with are lower back pains, pains related to the neck, and headaches.
Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese therapy that is very similar to a massage. It involved the use of the thumbs, fingers, and palms to apply pressure on various parts of the body. In shiatsu, the practitioner finds imbalances in the body and restores them to promote the general health or healing of the body. A shiatsu treatment is believed to help restore or maintain the bones, circulatory system, muscles, nervous system, and specific illnesses.
The forms of alternative medicine mentioned above are only a handful of the methods included under the large scope of alternative medicine. These practices offer a wide assortment of treatments and benefits that many people swear by. So although it may not be conventional or what you may be used to, it is definitely worth taking a look at. With so many different practices and schools of thought, you may find the treatment you have always been looking for.
