The minimum a dishwasher should run at is around 120F and to effectively clean and remove bacteria the dishwasher should be changed to 155F. With persistently keeping your dishwasher at low temperatures, you may be damaging the machine, as it will extend its cycle time as it tries to effectively heat the water.
Another aspect that a lot of people are not doing is using the correct type and brand of detergent. As the credit crunch looms, people turn to cheaper alternatives of brands, this is good for some markets, but you must make sure that you are always using the correct detergent, although it may be a bit pricier it is surely worth it to have clean dishes. There is the option of selecting to use either gel or crystal based detergent, both of these work in the same way, so once you have found one that does the job for you, you should stick to that brand.
Finally an aspect that a lot of people tend to forget is to load there dishwasher properly, it's a bit like a washing machine. If you overload the machine with clothes, they will probably still come out dirty; the same can be said for a dishwashers. If they are piled up with dishes they will still come out dirty no matter what temperature you have it on.
Taking all of the above aspects into consideration, you should perform each task effectively to get maximum performance from your machine. If you are still experience difficulties, then you should promptly call out an engineer to fix the problem.
