World of Boxer Automobile Engine Models

Boxer automobile engines were designed for the Subaru car model. It has improved the image of diesel engines because of its remarkable qualities. Many sporty cars in European markets are fitted with this engine model. Following the launch of this engine, Subaru automobile company has introduced sensational cars in the market.

Unlike many engines, boxer auto engines have pistons that lie in a horizontal position. It also has cylinders that lie on each side, opposing each other. Other engine models have pistons that lie on a v-angle position. Another unique feature of boxer engine is the presence of a crank pin per piston. In other engine models, pistons share a single crank pin. The effect of these features minimizes vibrations thus enhancing a smooth ride. Boxer auto engine acquired this name because pistons seem to "box" each other because of their counteracting motion. One moves in opposite motion against the other. This creates a balance within the engine which maintains a smooth operation and longevity.

Boxer automobile engines have a lower center of gravity as well which enhances the vehicle's balance. Therefore, cars that have been fitted with this engine do not topple over easily during collisions and other accidents. Many people are conscious about their safety and, since the boxer auto engine guarantees them this necessity, it has become an increasingly popular choice. This engine also offers balance through piston arrangement. Unlike other engine models, the boxer engine has a unique piston movement. Each piston movement is countered by a corresponding piston. This minimizes engine vibrations witnessed in other vehicles.

Compared with other engine models, Boxer engine model is wide too. This accounts for its bigger size and great horsepower. The most recent model is the flat type that is often fitted to small aircrafts. And, with its air cooling facility it does not heat up easily. Many ordinary engines heat up faster after traveling a certain mileage. Boxer automobile engine solve this problem and lengthens the amount of mileage that you can typically get out of a car.

The only disadvantage associated with the boxer engine model is the cost of production. Many manufactures claim that its large size and sophisticated accessories increase costs and time of production. This explains why the engine model is expensive and rare. Boxer engines are also bigger and heavier. Therefore, manufactures require more materials in their assembly. To reverse this image, Subaru Company has conducted many trials in their search of a smaller but powerful and efficient boxer engine model. Manufactures have hopes of reducing the cost of production and assembly following the engine's reduced size.
