Since the 1980s the way we travel with our music has come a long way. Many no doubt remember the portable Walkman that used cassettes and which was made by Sony. The Walkman made it possible for joggers, travelers and just about anyone who wanted to carry their music and other taped sound with them wherever they went. Then the Discman towered over the Walkman and quickly became popular due to the CD-quality sound that it afforded. Two companies, Phillips and Sony were major players in this transition from cassette to CD. As quickly as CDs took the world by storm, musical gadget inventors quickly zeroed in on limitations. For instance, a CD, just like the 50s, 60s or 70s vinyl record, could be scratched and damaged. CDs also had a maximum of 10,000 plays before it became history and could be damaged by extremes of temperatures, for example leaving them in a hot car. CDs were also cumbersome to carry, especially if you had many. The answer? Apple's iPod.
The iPod is a musical gadget like no other. It boasts a high-capacity and can therefore store hundreds of CDs in a tiny space! This was welcomed by music enthusiasts because it meant no longer traveling with large CD carriers and cases and one could not easily download music directly from legal music sites such as iTunes onto the iPod and store thousands of songs in perfect digital format.
The advent of the iPod has also meant the rise of a sub-market for devices related to the iPod. One of them is the market for wireless outdoor speakers which can be used with the iPod. It is understandable that some people want to listen to their iPods using their private headsets. But there are occasions where one is in a group setting and it would therefore be rude for them to be using their headsets. In such a case, outdoor speakers suffice.
There are many outdoor speaker brands that are in the market right now. One of the industry leaders in this department is Logitech. Logitech has been making computer speakers and accessories for a while now and for an around $100-$200 you can get some quality IPod speakers.
Another respected firm is Altec Lansing which made a name for itself with studio speakers and car stereo equipment. A pair of good iPod Altec Lansing speakers will cost you somewhere around $150.00. These are the standard type. If you want to upgrade then you might want to consider purchasing the InMotion i600 and the Pure-Fi Dream which can run you close to $200.00.
If you have more change to spare for your iPod outdoors speakers, then the Chestnut Hill Sound George is what you're looking for. With their exceptional sound quality, these speakers can be costly, running around $500.00 or more. It can be said that you get what you pay for. If you are serious about the quality of your sound, then you want to invest somewhere above $200.00 or even better, get the Chestnut Hill Sound iPod speakers.
