Leaky Fridge Causing Tons Of Water Damage Restoration By Gayelord Nash
One day, I decided it was time to do some renovations on my very outdated kitchen that had appliances from way back in the 80's. When I first began planning my renovations it never even crossed my mind that I would be doing any water damage restoration, but once I moved my fridge I was in for a massive shock.
Underneath my fridge was blacker than black and the floor was pretty much falling through. It never looked like my fridge was leaking or had any water coming out of it, but I was really wrong. My fridge had water coming out of it; it just never ended up coming out from underneath the fridge.
There was so much water damage, causing me to have to contact a water damage restoration specialist right away. I thought I could do it on my own when I first started looking at it, but when I went and did a bit of research I knew the problem was worse then I thought. The black stuff was actually mold and all the flooring underneath it was brutal, if I were to put anything on it I would have a nice hole in my floor, which I was hoping to avoid.
Water damage restoration is definitely not the easiest thing to take care of if you have no clue to do it, and when you see just what water can do you'd be amazed. Just by a little leak in my really old fridge ate away at my flooring. I had nice hardwood floors everywhere throughout my house, and that hardwood wasn't much of anything underneath my fridge.
It made me wonder how long that leak was going on. When we put our hardwood down about five years ago there was nothing wrong with the floor underneath where my fridge was then, so what caused my fridge to just all of a sudden leak? I, to this day, haven't determined this, but I can guarantee it was because it was just an old fridge.
By the end of my renovations I noticed quickly how easily water could affect anything. All around my sink area and fridge area had mold underneath the floorboards. At first I didn't want to have to replace any flooring, but once the cupboards were removed you could see the mold growing, leading to much more water damage restoration. In the end it took me about 2 months to get my kitchen back up to par and zero water damage.
If I didn't call in a water damage restoration specialist I probably wouldn't have caught half of the water damage that was in my kitchen and would of found myself completing more water damage restoration later on when things just were unfixable.
I've now gone ahead and recommended to many of my friends and family to check underneath their fridges regularly, leaks seem to just start out of no where, and they can do lots of damage over time, especially if they aren't noticed for several years. I'm amazed my fridge didn't go through my floor already, I am quite glad I decided on a renovation or I could have had even worse water damage restoration down the road.
