Sometimes, no matter how prepared we are, we just can't keep our house from being damaged by water, especially if the community has been submerged to flood waters for awhile. And even if you're living in a flood-free community, you can still experience water damage which can be caused by faulty water pipes or overflowing sewer. Water damage can largely affect your furniture, carpets, wallpapers, appliances and other precious things inside your homes. Now, you don't want to be replacing all these things after spending a lot on them, right? This is where water damage restoration becomes very important.

Water damage restoration is what you do when you want to restore your properties after be getting damaged by water. You may think that water damage restoration simply requires you to mop and dry your home and the things inside it. However, there may be more things to it than what you think you already know. In fact, most water damage restoration cases are better left to professionals. Still, you can do something to save your home when the professionals are not yet there. Here are some of them:
* Asses the level of damage that your properties have sustained.
* Remove as much water as you can.
* Dry the place by allowing proper air circulation.
* Remove appliances and furniture to allow for faster drying.
* Eliminate the things that you think may not be useful anymore.

When the water damage restoration experts are there, you can leave the rest of the jobs to them. And if you can, you might as well tag along while they are doing the necessary works. This way, you'd be able to figure out what you should do next time you're in this kind of situation. You'll do fine just learning about the principles of water damage restoration from them.
* Stabilize - this includes stopping the source of water completely.
* Clean - dirt and debris should be removed after water has been stopped.
* Disinfect - you need to think that all water damage is not clean and you should disinfect. This is especially important because bacteria and harmful chemicals may be present in the water.
* Dry- no water damage restoration is complete without drying; for the most obvious reason that all the efforts will be useless without having the house and things restored to its original state.
* Repair - after you have dried all that's needed to be dried, the next thing you'll need to do is to repair all the damage. Some furniture and home furnishings can get ruined by flood or water damage so repair is necessary.
