Top Five Great Destinations for Sea Kayaking

Throughout the United States one of the most popular vacation options is sea kayaking. Sea kayaking not only allows you to relax but it also gives you the chance to enjoy the scenery from a perspective you wouldn’t normally be able to see. Sea kayaking in itself is also an excellent, fun activity to take part in. When it comes to planning your next sea kayaking vacation consider the following five destinations in North America for the best experience.

First up is Fox Island in Seward, Alaska. Here you will find the best location for sea kayaking that is better than anyplace in the world. The unspoiled natural beauty of this island offers the best scenic views. You can also spot some local wildlife such as sea lions, sea otters, whales, peregrine falcons and bald eagles. All this with views of pebbled beaches, rainforests, cliffs and private coves where you can enjoy a quiet lunch or break from paddling in the beautiful waters.

The second destination is also in Alaska; Prince William Sound. This destination can be found in the northernmost end of the Gulf of Alaska. Here you will find rugged mountains, glaciers and barrier islands along with sheltered coves which are perfect for beginning kayakers. You can also spot wildlife such as the sea lion, bald eagle, kittiwakes and brown bears.

Next we move to the other side of the United States to the Down East Islands in Maine. This destination if for the adventurous sea kayaker. These 920 miles of coastline is known as some of the most rugged in North America. This group of islands is made up of 255 islands that are perfect for those who want to explore a hidden cover or private beach.

Fourth is Pictured Rocks Lakeshore in Lake Superior, Michigan. Here you will find a national park that stretches for 43 miles along the southern shore of Lake Superior. This island features white sand beaches, waterfalls and sandstone cliffs that are between fifty and two hundred feet in height. This is truly a picturesque sea kayaking destination. You can even explore a number of caves and coves from your kayak with plenty of opportunities to camp and hike throughout the park.

Lastly there is the Emerald Island of Kauai, Hawaii. Many know of Kauai’s Na Pali Coast and the scenes found there. This lushly landscape has been used as the backdrop for a number of movies. This shoreline is known as some of the most beautiful in the world.

It is still uninhabited and is virtually inaccessible by any means other than kayak, which makes it perfect for exploring. Although be sure you are prepared since the seventeen mile kayak journey is also known as the Mt. Everest of kayaking. So be sure you are experienced in the methods of sea kayaking before attempting this trip.

If you like to do sea kayaking then there is no shortage of destinations to enjoy in the United States. Next time you are considering a relaxing summer vacation, try your hand at sea kayaking. There is no better way to have a relaxing vacation.
