Six Suggestions To Keep From Being Run Over By Your Toddler By Terry Stanfield
Parents of toddlers face many challenges. Young children are curious, active, and imaginative, but they can also be exasperating at the same time. While watching your child learn and grow is an amazing experience, dealing with a toddler can leave parents frustrated, especially if they don't know the best methods of teaching toddlers.
If your toddler is a handful, you need to learn positive ways to deal with their energy and needs without being run over by your toddler. If you are having trouble with your young child you are not alone and these six tips can help.
Set a good example for your toddler. Young children imitate what they see and the actions you do will directly affect the way you act. If young children see their parents yell, scream, and act inappropriately they are much more likely to do so as well.
Toddlers need a routine. Many of the daily meal time, nap time, and bed time battles can be avoided if you have a routine associated with the activity. Toddlers have an easier time following rules when they know exactly what to expect.
Temper tantrums are the worst nightmare of parents of toddlers. It is very common but toddlers don't throw temper tantrums just to make you mad. Toddlers are just beginning to get a grip on verbal skills and do not always have the words to express what they are feeling. Next time your toddler has a tantrum try understanding and acknowledging their feelings.
Another notorious toddler issue is being a picky eater. There is no simple solution that works for every picky eater, but it is important to offer a variety of new foods on a regular basis. It may take ten, twenty, or more time of trying a new food before your child will eat it so keep trying.
Many parents expect their toddlers to share, cooperate, and get along with other kids. Toddlers are learning a tremendous amount and social skills are usually one of the later things to develop after physical, verbal, and emotional skills. Children should be discourage from hitting and hurting others and re directed, but don't expect them to have a firm grasp on playing nicely, sharing, and taking turns. Pre-schoolers are better able to socially interact so don't set your expectations of your toddler's social skills too high.
Everyone needs their own space and time to relax and unwind. Your toddler needs time to relax just like you so make sure you plan quiet activities for them.
Toddlers can be challenging, but the rewards of watching your wobbly toddler grow into a confident child are well worth it. With plenty of love and guidance your toddler will become a well adjusted pre-schooler.
