When you apply to law school, you are asked a question and expected to answer it in an essay format.
The admissions committee is looking for several things. First, they want to know you can put your ideas on paper fluently and grammatically correct. Second, they want you to answer the question they asked in the first place. Last, you should mention things that weren't asked on the actual application such as your community service activities or achievements.
Your entrance essay is put there as a challenge to you to speak to the admissions committee and let them know why they should pick you over all other applicants. You should give it a lot of thought, and be thorough and concise.

The LSAT is the test you need to score big on in order to get into the law school of your choice. These scores are the scores that determine whether you get into a high ranked college or a lower ranked one.
It might not matter much to you if you have your heart set already on a lower ranked school. But if you are one of the law students set on Cornell Law or Yale, you need to score big!
Most schools get thousands of applicants and only take a small percentage into their fold. Your LSAT score may be the one thing you have over another possible choice of the admissions committee.
