Google Analytics is a free service offered by Google to gather all your visitors' data and statistics. Google Analytics is formerly known as Urchin, a web analytics company. Urchin was acquired by Google on 28 March 2005. 3 months later on 14 November 2005, Google released Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a free service offered by Google. Unlike traditional web statistics services, Google Analytics main target users are marketer instead of webmasters.

Other than providing normal web statistics, such as number of visitors, number of page views, search engine referrals, browsers statistics etc, Google Analytics can be integrated with Google Adwords to track the conversion and statistic of each keyword, landing page conversion statistics, allow marketers to setup goals conversion as well. According to Google Analytics, Goal conversions are the primary metric for measuring how well your site fulfills business objectives. A goal is a website page which a visitor reaches once they have made a purchase or completed another desired action, such as a registration or download.

So how can you get a Analytics account? Simply search for Google Analytics in any search engine, follow the link and complete the sign up process. After you have your Analytics account, the next thing that you need to do is integrate Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC) into your website to enable the tracking.

Firstly, login to your Analytics account and you need to create a website profile. A website profile allow you to track a website and create different vies of reporting data using filters. All you need to do is just put in your domain name information. Once you have created a profile, you will receive a code snippet. All you need to do is paste this code into all your web pages. Simply open all your web pages with notepad, locate the code of the closing of the html body and paste the whole chunk of code before closing of the html body. This completes the integration process. It may takes up to several hours of data collection before Google Analytics displays any visitors' statistics for your website.

For Adwords advertisers, in order to link your Adwords account and Analytics account, there is a condition. Your Adwords account and your Analytics account login name has to be the same email address. If they are different, you cannot link them together.

To link you Adwords account with your Analytics account, simply login to your Google Adwords account, click the Analytics tab on top of your dashboard and follow the steps by steps wizard.

Google Analytics is a very powerful tools that every webmaster and online marketers should use.
