Types of HDTV's - Learn Before You Go Shopping

The market is spilling over with the latest brand new models of HDTV. The High Definition TV is taking over from the age old analog TV. It is nothing but a standardized makeover of the standard television. The customers often get confused about what to buy and what not to buy. They usually end up with something from which they are disappointment. However, if you have the proper information and the guidelines you are sure to grasp the right one.

When shopping for a HDTV, many people head to their local Circuit City or Best Buy and talk to the 18 year old salesperson about a new TV. Unfortunately, this is not the best way to approach buying a new TV. First of all, you are going to be spending several hundred or even thousands of dollar. You need to do your own research and educate yourself about the different types of HDTV's and their features. If you spend your time doing research, you will also find a better deal than the average day at the local electronics store.

LCD TV's are extremely popular, especially in the 20 inch to 40 inch size range. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. Many people are already using LCD displays with their home computers. These types of TV's have historically been cheaper. Some disadvantages of LCD is the inferior black levels. They don't display black and dark colors as dark as some other types of HDTV's.

Plasma TV's are becoming more popular, especially in the 40 inch and higher size range. Plasma's typically have the best possible picture available. They display blacks very black and have the richest possible colors. Historically, plasma TV's are more expensive than LCD TV's but they are becoming more affordable all the time. Plasma TV's also consume more power which could cause your power bill to go up a couple dollars per month.

Rear projection HDTV's are still available but are being produced less and less by major TV manufacturers. Many of the new brands don't even make them. They are bulkier than flat panels, not as reliable and don't produce quite the same image. However, they are considerably cheaper. You can often buy a 60 inch rear projection for the price of a 37 inch flat panel.

By learning more about these 3 types of HDTV's, you can be more knowledgeable and not get taken advantage of by salespeople.
