If You Can't Afford Good Safety Equipment, You Can't Afford Motocross

If You Can't Afford Good Safety Equipment, You Can't Afford Motocross

Motocross is a lot of fun, but it is a dangerous sport. Some riders try to save a little money on "good enough" motocross helmets and boots, but "good enough" isn't good enough!

Don't Settle For Cheap Equipment

There are things in life you can save money on. Cheap toilet paper may not be as soft and cheap peanut butter may not taste as good, but you can get by. The same cannot be said for motocross helmets and boots. Any rider who thinks he's never going to get hurt is headed for a painful life lesson. All motocross riders get hurt. Poor quality safety equipment means you'll get hurt even more.

Some people feel the top equipment is overpriced because you are paying for a brand name. To some extent they are right. However the top motocross apparel is also expensive because it is better designed and made of better material.

Motocross Helmets Are Cheaper Then Emergency Room Visits

One bad crash will cost you far more than an expensive helmet. An ambulance ride, an emergency room fee, lots of x-rays, maybe some physical therapy - all that is going to add up. And yet you can save yourself all of that expense with the right motocross clothing.

Injuries can also carry a more serious cost - permanent disability. A good quality boot may mean you don't walk with a cane the rest of your life. A good helmet may mean you have the rest of your life at all. Saving on equipment is a false economy. If safety isn't the first thing on your mind, you shouldn't be riding motocross.

More Bonuses to Good Equipment

Better quality motocross helmets and boots aren't just safer. They feel better. Riders who upgrade from cheap to expensive equipment never go back. This is probably most true with boots when after a long day riding your feet don't hurt. However it's also true with helmets, chest protectors, or anything else.

Comfort is important to safety as well. A rider who is distracted by uncomfortable equipment isn't giving full attention to the track. It may not seem like much, but a split second can make all the difference.

Better equipment often lasts longer. It may cost more up front, but you buy less often so you actually spend less money overall. Does this mean you need to buy the most expensive motocross apparel you can find? Not necessarily. You can go a couple of steps down and still get equipment that is high quality and safe. However you certainly should be shopping on the upper end of the price scale.
