Keeping Job Applicants Honest With Employment Verification Checks

There are a myriad of reasons for employment history verification being important in this day and age. This sort of verification makes it possible for both companies and small business owners to check the personal information that is given to them by an individual.

Many job applicants, hoping to look more qualified than they are or hoping to prevent knowledge of a bad situation with a previous employer from coming to light, might choose to falsify job application information thereby resulting in your hiring somebody other than who you thought.

If there is falsified information on a resume or application, the company or business owner will know right away if they do an employment verification check. Many employers are legally bound to do this sort of verification to safeguard their present employees from both inconvenience and harm. The latter of these two is the most important. This verification process was designed to identify potential falsifications.

Very often, dates of employment and job responsibilities are information that can easily be misrepresented, sometimes unknowingly misrepresented. Some applicants, however, know that they are misrepresenting this information and can go to the extent of adding completely fictitious employers to make themselves seem more fit for the job they are now applying for. Applicants may feel the need to do this so they have a better chance of landing a good job.

Some applicants may simply want to hide their misbehavior from previous jobs or criminal acts. Theft and workplace violence are two common reasons that applicants may feel the need to falsify applications. Long periods of unemployment are also a reason to falsify documents.

On the other hand, applicants may just exaggerate a job description if they are applying for a job that requires some special level of training or experience. So, as you can see, there are many reasons for the applicant to lie if they feel the need.

These reasons are why employment history verification is so important. In fact, it is vital to many employers to conduct this sort of background check. If an employer hires a person with a "rough" background, he or she could be sued and held accountable for the misconduct of an employee that was hired under false pretenses.

If a current employee is harassed or harmed by a new employee that was not properly scanned, the employer may be in serious trouble. Any smart employer will not want to be held responsible for the actions of a troublesome employee.
