Steps To Improving Your Point Of Sale

Steps To Improving Your Point Of Sale

As a customer shopping in major supermarkets there is nothing more frustrating than having to wait in line of a queue, only to finally arrive at the till ready to pay but the attendant has to rush off and find a new receipt roll as they have currently run out! As much as the POS systems are designed to speed up the transaction process, there are some nitty gritty details that need ironing out such as that of changing the receipt roll.

However, there is an easier way of speeding up the transaction process through some simple measures. For the first step the management will need to put their heads together and come up with finding new equipment to scan the barcodes. Buy new POS equipment will help prevent any problems of misreading and error in pricing data entry. Manually putting in prices can cause more chances of misquoting costs and entering in the wrong keys.

Omni-directional barcode scanners are good to use for reading accurate price codes and inputting the right data. They are very quick and efficient therefore this will help prevent the queuing system from growing and reduce the number of customer complaints.

Credit card authorisation is another problem for POS systems. These can often slow down the transaction process, as they take time authorising credit cards. There are software's that incorporate credit authorisation onto their systems, which when connected onto a broadband internet can authorise credit cards in as little two seconds. However, if your establishment uses a system that takes more than five minutes, it may come to light that you will need to replace your system completely.

Touch screen tills are better than manually entering the information by pushing buttons. This way you can select the item, in which the information has already been programmed in that will then display the product information and the price. These will also reduce the need for a keyboard and mouse which can take time to use and select. Touch is an instinctive human action; therefore, we are more likely to work faster using a touch screen transactional service system.

For the all important till receipt machines, the best thing to do is to purchase a brand new receipt printer which allows the user to quickly load new till rolls and will print the receipt as quickly as possible without having to wait a few minutes. Some of the thermal printers can be useful in printing things out in next to no time. Always aim for the branded printers, which have had good responses from users and are recommended by the retailers. These will last longer and require low maintenance; as you will use the printer everyday it will need to be strong enough to withstand a higher number of usages.

Other points to think about when upgrading your POS system are the software system itself. Always aim for the most reliable hardware and software. This will reduce the number of glitches and problems, and will cost less in keeping it maintained. Never opt for the cheaper option; there is nothing worse than seeing customers wait impatiently for the system to come back online. The chances they will never come back to your establishment, so you cannot afford to lose the business.
