These days, an employee criminal background check is a routine part of the interviewing process. There are many companies and organizations that are required to do one of these background checks on potential employees. Potential government workers are always subject to one of these background checks before hire.
In many cases, employees are subject to random criminal background checks after hire. If an employee or potential employee has any sort of misdemeanor or felony charge on their record, the background check will show this information. These background checks are also done for the safety of other employees as well.
Usually, a person's social security number is needed for a proper background check. A social security number will bring up personal details about a person. A few companies perform driving history checks. These checks, of course, bring up your driving history, and can alert a company about faulty driving as well as possible drug charges. A company can easily see into your behavior by running these background checks.
Credit checks are also used at times. These checks also let a company see into your personal behavioral patterns. If a company is letting an employee use a company credit card, a credit check can be very useful. A company may choose to run any of these different background checks to obtain information on a potential employee. For government related jobs, they may use more than one of these methods.
Background checks will also show previous employers so that the work history of an individual can be checked and verified. The information that is provided by the employer will be verified by the information given by the applicant.
So, it is always best to be truthful when filling out any application or making a resume. If an applicant has a history of substance abuse, a company can find out with a check. If a potential employee is applying for a position that consists of operating heavy machinery, a company should be looking for substance abuse on their record as to avoid a potential accident. These criminal background checks are becoming an important part of hiring for many companies.
Many temporary work service companies charge their employees for the employee criminal background check that was conducted. The charge of each background check varies, but they usually cost around fifteen to twenty dollars.
Whether the potential employee passes the background check or not, they will be billed for it. Some companies will take the background check charge out of a first paycheck.
