Christian Social Networking Alternatives

If you have spent any time on the Internet and have visited social media sites, then you know that there are a lot of things that as a parent you might not want your children to be exposed to. Online predators and racy banner ads are just a couple of the things that we as parents have to worry about every time our children get on the Internet. Many of the ads that are promoted on My space are sexually illicit and are not appropriate for children of any age. No child should be exposed to any type of sexual material on the internet, but against what is best for our children, these ads are placed on almost every page that you click on.
Aside from the facts of inappropriate material on these social media sites, we as parents have to take an active approach on monitoring what our children are viewing and what sites they visit on the web.
Our family monitors every website that our children go to, and do not allow them to go to social media websites unless they are family friendly and Christian oriented. We do not want the morals that we have spent years to instill in our children to be corrupted, and do not want them subjected to things that young children need not see. As parents we need to preview the things our children view on web, and make sure they are suitable for children, and carry the same Christian values we have taught them.
I have noticed that there are many young people on social media sites who do not concern themselves with the way they make themselves look on their own page. Why are there so many young ladies on these social media websites making themselves to look seductive for their profile picture? Why do these young girls feel that this is the only way to look attractive? Could it be what the social media websites allow to be promoted in their ads? I say yes! So its time we look for alternative social sites where our children and youth can interact with each other.
Parents need to be educated to the real dangers of letting their children use social networking sites such as Myspace without parental supervision. As parents we have the ability to stop problem before they ever start with simple moderation of our childrens online activities. If you cannot be at the house all day to watch you children you might look at a internet filter that will allow you to filter out any sites that you deem inappropriate for your children to visit.
By not allowing your children to visit potential dangerous sites, and offering a Christian alternative you help your safeguard your children, and supply a safe, fun environment for your children to play.
