People nowadays are very fashion conscious. From Paris, Milan, London and New York, the famous fashion week has become a huge event of creativity and trendsetting. This weeklong fashion haute couture, apparel and lingerie extravaganza influences popular culture down to the core and has changed how people of today view beauty and style. Fashion greatly influences peoples self esteem. For some it has become a motivating factor to stay fit and take care of their body in order to emulate the idea of beauty photoshopped in glossy magazine covers. However, for the less motivated ones, they wallow even more and sink into the bottom of the social class. This is because the way you package yourself does not only take a bright welcoming smile, it includes donning a Berkin bag, paired with skinny jeans, floral halter top, comfy flip flops and a Dolce & Gabbana aviator shades. Fashion largely determines how people respond to you. There is an innate barometer which measures a persons likability judging on the clothes they wear.

Lingerie goes beyond undergarments. It is designed to be visually appealing or erotic. Typical materials are Lycra, nylon, polyester, satin, lace and silk. Lingerie fashion shows are often studded with supermodels like Giselle Bunchen, Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum, Karolina Kurkova, Tyra Banks and other big names in the modeling industry. This has largely contributed to the flair, glamor and popularity of lingerie as a requirement for all women (and men) to have their own collection. Gone are the days where people tolerate grandmother undergarments. Society practically shuns its existence.

Victoria Secret for instance draws its success from lingerie. They earn billions of dollars selling fashionable undergarments which are largely categorized as lingerie. They earn over $3 billion in revenue in 2006. Victoria Secret has set the bar for fashionable lingerie. In fact they have become so popular that they are considered lingerie in itself. They are at the forefront of the lingerie business. Categorically speaking, its Victorias Secret and others. Lingerie has become a turning point in undergarment fashion. The glamorization of lingerie has created so much appeal to the public that people generally feel the need to have them.

The lingerie market was driven by the revolutionary technological advancements and modern technology that help in creating and designing innovative products that are seamless, made with great fabrics, silk, laces and brighter, more daring color. The global lingerie market around five years ago was estimated at $29 billion.

Lingerie is considered a women (and mans) secret weapon. Why do you think Victoria Secret is so successful? The need to be visually attractive has become a necessity that this alone has driven and fueled economy. The Japanese economy for example is fueled by the unparalleled consumerism of their people which is largely influenced by their need to be fashionable all the time. This also holds true for burgeoning sleeping superpower, China and India. Fashion has become more than just the endless need to buy the newest and trendiest top. Fashion is a lifestyle.
