A History Of The Human Attraction To Water

A History Of The Human Attraction To Water

Since the beginning of time humans have been attracted to water for many reasons. The most obvious attraction to fresh water is the fact that we must ingest it to be able to survive. We can not normally go more than several days without it before we become so dehydrated that we can not function well or at all. The other reasons we are attracted to it are for useful purposes and recreation.

The useful purposes have been going on ever since someone whoever they were, learned to swim. It made it possible to get from one side of a small enough body of water to the other side. Whatever the reason they needed to get to the other side we may never know. It could have been because there was a great fruit growing on the other side or an animal to be killed that was not on the side they were on.

Then someone built the first boat. They might have accidentally discovered that some wood would float while others did not. That was a really great discovery and we have been building bigger and better boats ever since. Boats have long been used to transport trade goods and other necessities from one place along a waterway to another. From country to country boats went eventually went, sometimes bringing necessities and sometimes even diseases from far off places.

One of the most fun things about our attraction to water is what we do in it. Boating is also a pleasure activity that many people indulge their selves in. Anything from a small dingy to a luxurious yacht will be used by people to enjoy cruising up and down water. Swimming for fun and sport is done all around the world.

What is amazing is the amount of money that some vacationers will spend just to be near their body of water of choice. Sometimes they will travel thousands of miles just to see and be able to walk along the beautiful beaches of Hawaii or the islands in the Caribbean. Sun worshipers everywhere love nothing better than a gorgeous beach filled with people from everywhere.

The number one choice of water recreation for Americans is swimming pools. Some people just can not imagine having a home that does not include a swimming pool on their property. It makes it so easy to have our own pool in our own backyard to enjoy anytime the weather allows us to. Even though some pool varieties can be expensive to have put in and the upkeep is not cheap either, it is worth the sacrifice for many.
