Reduce Travel Stress With GPS By Brian Knapp
They say that time is money and on vacation that seems doubly true. For example, have you ever been on vacation and tried to use a folding map to navigate through a modern city? Since cities can change their road systems often and the maps aren't always up to date, you can often find yourself very lost. What do you do next? Stop an ask for directions? Drive in circles? Perhaps, you get lost and it sparks an argument with your traveling companions. No matter how you slice it, it's not a pretty picture.
If this has happened to you, perhaps you need a GPS, or Global Position System enabled mapping device. These little magic wonders can severely reduce your stress factor when you travel.
You may think that only those who travel a lot, but you'd be wrong. The truth is that GPS systems are so useful and affordable, that you can't afford not to have one. Of course, the trick lies in figuring out which one suits your needs best.
One incredibly popular type of GPS system is a stand-alone system. This types of system offers the most complete and thorough mapping utilities. These systems are usually great at not only offering driving directions but also travel information such as landmarks you should see along the way. If you rely on maps for navigation and want extra travel details, this type of system would be a great buy.
Another option is multipurpose handheld navigation devices. These navigation systems are well suited for active families. These systems don't always include turn by turn navigation, but that feature is becoming more common. Their key benefit is that they aren't tethered to your automobile, so if you like camping, hiking, or fishing, they can be useful in those applications as well.
The last option is laptop or pda based GPS. These systems were once popular, but are growing very unpopular as the GPS technology becomes cheaper. It used to make sense to use your pda or laptop for navigation, but those systems are clunky and inconvenient compared to dedicated systems. Nowadays it is much more popular to find GPS on your phone, such as the iPhone.
Regardless of which type of car navigation system you use, having a GPS unit can keep you heading in the right direction at all times. It will save you time backtracking and make your trips a much more enjoyable experience. Enjoy your trip and may the GPS be with you!
