A Need to Know the Basics

A Need to Know the Basics

"How often do you get a new business card made? Do you get one every few years? Have you been using the same card for the past ten years and don’t feel like changing it anytime soon? Or do you get one made every chance you get, always looking forward to the next time you get to print one up?

I can’t really say that one particular method for getting business cards is the best way to go. After all, the person who has been using the same one for years might benefit from a stable image and a secure place in the market. The very fact that the business card is the same is what helps continue that stable look.

But then, varying up your card also comes with some distinctive bonuses to consider.

Odds are good you’re going to be going to a number of different seminars or tradeshows that offer prime opportunities to hand out your business cards. Do you want to be giving people the exact same card over and over again, or do you want to surprise them by always having something different, something interesting and new?

A great business card can get people talking, and having multiple great business cards gives you the spice of variety a lot of companies can’t boast.

But what about the time it takes to design all those cards? If you know the basics of what makes a business card work you can easily design some business card templates to ease the strain on your time and money if you’re hiring someone to do the job for you.

No matter what kind of card you’re getting done, there are going to be certain details that need to go on it if you want your business card to do its job. Decide where your contact info will be, where your company name and logo will be, and where you want images, or other creative designs. Now you just need to fill in the blanks to get your card going.

You might get a few different business card templates designed, each one giving you the ability to add in new information or new images.

Another great thing about using a template is that you can get a new business card designed and printed out with very little notice. If you have a tradeshow you weren’t expecting but want a new card for, all it takes is pulling out your template, alter the images, and now you’ve got something new to show people.

Sometimes the same business card can work well for a person for years on end, but I have to say, I kind of prefer to try something new. There’s a certain kind of joy that comes with getting a new batch of business cards in the mail that you just can’t match, and the more often I’m able to experience it the better.
