The Story
Les Liaisons Dangereuses has been adopted from a French novel by Choderlos de Laclos. The play is all about the battle of the sexes. Its plot includes seduction, revenge, betrayal, illicit passion, and dark comedy. The play revolves around Marquise de Merteuil and Victome de Valmont. They are long time friends and occasional lovers, and both of them use sex to dishonor and disgrace their enemies. Merteuil wants Valmont to seduce Cecile, a young girl who has been brought out of the convent by her mother so that she could get married. Valmont, on the other hand, is more interested in trying to seduce Madame de Tourvel, a married and virtuous lady. Pretty soon, Valmont and Merteuil become enemies.
