If you send a manuscript to a publisher who requires a query letter first, you are wasting your time, because they will not read it.
When you are interested in going with an independent publisher, you will need to follow a different set of rules. Most of the time, they will offer you a publishing guide to look over before you decide to go with them. This guide will outline the process they use for publishing as well as give you an idea of what services they provide for you during the process. The main advantage of going with an independent book publisher is the ability to get a book published that doesn’t fit specific categories or is very unusual. You may want to produce a children’s pop-up book with stickers and scratch and sniff pages. This is kind of an outrageous idea but it is more likely to be made if you go through an independent book publisher.
The best advice for choosing a book publishing company that will best suit your needs is to research what types of books that company usually makes. Then, you need only send in your work following the guidelines they set for submission of work. Using the right tools for the job is going to make your experience getting your book published a much more enjoyable one. Use your best judgment to decide which book publishing company will have everything you need or want.
