Any cultural trip should include a few trips to a museum. Amsterdam is crammed with museums so you will not be left feeling disappointed by the selection. The most prominent of these museums is the famous Rijksmuseum. This amazing building is not only beautiful but also contains some of the most incredible masterpieces you would wish to see. You should see the museum as it is now because the New Rijksmuseum will open in 2012 and offer even more.
Another world famous museum is the Van Gogh Museum. Here you will be able to walk through the intricate and often confusing life of Vincent van Gogh and maybe get a better understanding to how his brilliance manifested itself into some of the most expensive and famous paintings.
Even the hotels are steeped in culture. You will have a wide choice of hotels to lodge at each with its own architectural story. The Dutch are a very open and educated people so you should not have trouble asking any of the hotel staff about the history of the building and the surrounding area. Another architectural marvel is the Royal Palace.
While you are in Amsterdam you should also visit Anne Frank House. This will give you a history of Anne Frank and her family who hid from the Nazis during World War II before being found and sent to the death camps. Although this is a black mark on Western Europe's history, the House is still a very moving and important monument to see. The Anne Frank Memorial Statue is one of the finest pieces of modern art that you will ever see because it has much emotion attached to it.
Your trip to Amsterdam should not all have to be about museums and culture. You will need to also relax while you are there and there is no better place to do that in Amsterdam than at their famous coffee shops. These coffee shops are scattered around the city so matter where you stay you will not be left hungry at any time of the day. Coffee shops in Amsterdam is where everything happens from first dates to business meetings and this is where you will see the real Amsterdam as you sip a cup of your favourite blend with a big piece if chocolate cake.
If you want to experience the true Amsterdam then you should book for the summer season. This is when the city is packed with tourists from all walks of life.
So, with all this in mind, all you need to do is book your flights, accommodation and pack your bags. And don't worry if you happen to leave something behind. As a world-class city, you will find everything you need and more in the city of Amsterdam.
