Learning Water Safety For Children

Learning Water Safety For Children

Keeping children safe when they go swimming has always been a big problem for parents with children. Children are naturally curious about water. In the bath tubs at home to swimming pools in your own back yard to the creek outside your home or down the street, children are drawn to the magnificent element.

Did you know your child or you, for that matter, can drown in six inches of water? Never put a radio or any cords near water as they could be knocked into your water, and you would be electrocuted or worse. If you got hit on your head and was knocked out, a fall into the water with just your face submerged could cause you to drown. If you were by yourself you would most likely drown, so always have someone with you.

Never let your children go playing in water by themselves. You must keep a very close eye on them because they are so small and very curious. If you can't teach them to swim, there are several places to take them where they can be taught, such as the city pool, the YMCA, or an indoor pool that is open during winter or sometimes during school in PE classes. Never go or let your kids go swimming by themselves. Always take someone with them, just in case. If you go swimming in the creek, be careful of snakes and other animals that live in those creeks.

Never put your child in a boat without a lifejacket. Always make sure that life jacket is the right size for that child and that no damage is done to that life jacket. If the life jacket is not the right size or it is damaged, do not let your child on the boat. Don't let this child or the person driving the boat to think it will be okay. Children are not careful, and they only think about having fun. It is up to us to keep them safe when swimming or just playing in water.

Water balloons can be fun when they are done right. Never let your child throw one at your face because when it breaks upon hitting your face, you could choke on a piece of the balloon. Even a regular air balloon in water can be dangerous. If you really and truly want your children safe and have fun at the same time, always remember to put on a life jacket on a little child who doesn't know how to swim. Always be with them in the water or keep them in view when out of the water.
