Today, one of the major diseases that children and youth suffer from is the disease called Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD. Though even adults can suffer from this disease, it mainly affects children and the youth. Though ADD has received a great amount of focus and attention since the past several years, there is a large section of the people who are unaware of this disease and are not aware of the exact nature of this disease.

Attention deficit disorder coupled with food allergy is a unique problem faced by children. This has become one of the most controversial and a hot topic for debate in the field of medicine. Food sensitivities and ADHD is a very uncommon mechanism.

ADHD and its association with Food Allergy:
Children suffering from ADHD can develop food allergy with respect to different foodstuffs. The allergies can be reflected through various ways and children can develop dark circles under the eyes, glazed eyes, red ear lobes. Children show uncanny swings in their behavior. For one moment they can be calm and the next moment they can be extremely wild and hyperactive. A very surprising fact is that children suffering from this disease generally demand that food to which they are allergic to and which can affect them adversely.

How to recognize a child suffering from ADHD and food allergy:

Children suffering from ADHD and food allergy show adverse response to food which can be the main cause for the children to be suffering from ADHD.

Children suffering from ADHD show the following signs of food allergy:
a) Mood Swings and tantrums
b) Sleep disturbances
c) Asthma
d) Hyperactivity

Research shows that children suffering from food allergy can also suffer from problems like migraine, eczema, sleep disturbances, headaches etc.

Remedial Measures:
According to experts medicines seldom cure such cases. They simply help in controlling the symptoms to some extent. Even psychologists cannot do much than just helping the child and his family to live with the disease. Medicines would help the child in going through the day but not cure it completely. However many psychologists have developed several tests and ways to successfully lessen the effect of the disease.

Conclusion:
According to experts, the percentage of children suffering from ADHD and food allergy ranges from 60% to 75% approximately. It is more important to treat food allergies than using medication. There are a several ways in which food allergies can be cured. One of the ways is diet elimination. Thus it can be believed that food allergies aggravate ADHD though it may not be the reason to cause ADHD. Thus treating food allergies is vital for treating ADHD.
