Brainstorming for Christmas Craft Ideas

Enjoying a night of Christmas craft idea brainstorming

It’s 5 days before Christmas. Do you know what sort of Christmas crafts you’re going to make with your kids? If you’re like me, you wait to the last minute to get going on anything. But with xmas crafts, it doesn’t matter whether you wait til the last minute or plan ahead.

Hopefully if you’re reading this article, you will plan ahead! On to the brainstorming:
If you’ve got children, ages 4-14, take a look around your house. Look everywhere. See if you can find the following elements:
1) Ribbon
2) Buttons
3) Candles
4) Fake or real wreaths
5) Glue
6) Stick on stickers
7) Iron on stickers or labels
8) Food coloring
9) Wire
10) Styrofoam

With these craft supplies, you can now do almost anything you want for making kids Christmas crafts, or even preschool Christmas crafts! It’s true. Take store bought wreaths for example. Sure you can hang them up and have them look pretty, or, do what we did and let your children entwine ribbon and small garlands bits into the wreath and set it on a placemat for a centerpiece. See?

Or what about a Christmas candle craft? It’s very easy to have your daughter or son take glue and glitter and entwine some wire into the candle to make it decorative and fashionable. You can even take food coloring and soak soft pieces of tallow to color it as well. From plain candle to festive holiday candle in minutes!

What about brush wire figurines? You can take bendable wire like that used for ornaments and create humanoid figurines and take cloth to clothe them and then hang them up. Get your mary and joseph scene ready!
Or you can take the classic candy cane reindeer crafts and add a twist of spice to it by making a ginger bread Christmas house and having santa and his sleigh outside of it with his reindeer. Just look around your houses for a small santa doll, or even make a santa cookie and decorate it with food coloring for his rosy cheeks and top off his nose with a gumdrop. Add the reindeer candy canes and you’re all set!

And finally if you want to really get your kids involved, start a Christmas quilt. A little more involved, but your kids will learn a fine art in the process and can incorporate their own personalities in the quilt which will stay with them for a very long time.
As you can see, making Christmas crafts with kids isn’t hard to do if you put your mind to it. And best of all, most of the materials are laying around your home almost ready to be used. Good luck and get crafting.
